C/LW Daniel O'Regan (2012, 138th, SJS)

Playing on the same line as Eichel this year. Junior season. Has put up solid numbers in freshman and, relatively to team, sophomore season. Just wanted to see what any BU enthusiasts or people that have caught a glimpse of him have to say. Is he complementing Eichel, or is he being carried? And what is his skillset like? He played center his first two years and has switched to right wing this year, not left wing. The line is Oksanen-Eichel-O'Regan.

There is no doubt that he's benefited from playing on a line with Eichel. However, he's got plenty of skill himself. He was a ~PPG player his freshman year, but struggled last year on that trainwreck of a team. I see his future in the NHL (if there is one) at the wing considering his size.

He's equally adept at passing and shooting, it depends upon which role he's being asked to fill. He's been a goalscorer this year because everyone is paying attention to Eichel and O'Regan/Oksanen have been finishing Eichel's passes. His freshman year when he was at center he was asked to be the playmaker, and played that role well. He knows where to be on the ice and is a smart player. Doesn't bring much in terms of physical play or the defensive side of the puck.

That's a good assessment, Billy. As a freshmen he centered BU's top line with current Shark Matt Nieto at LW and Evan Rodrigues at RW. For about 2 1/2 months that season, this was the highest scoring line in NCAA D-1 hockey. O'Regan's father, Tom, a captain at BU, played most of a season with Pittsburgh and had a long career in Germany.

So, two years later.....he got the callup from the Sharks today. 11 pts in his first 11 games in the AHL.

What's this guys ceiling? Has he been playing C or Wing?

1. Center.
2. If everything works out he could be a 2C but he's so small that he'd need to get faster if he wants a chance at the NHL. He was pretty overwhelmed in his one game.

I've followed this guy for most of his NCAA career. He was highly regarded and had a few down seasons and even underperformed in the WJC to expectations. His Senior year he was great and now is 2nd in rookie scoring in AHL.

Anyone who's had a chance to see him play this season have anything to add to how he's been adjusting to pro hockey and why he's been so successful? Any other thoughts or insights would be great too

funny story is I worked with his mom for two years and I will say this that he for sure had a concussion the year BU played in the frozen four...

I've meet him really nice kid so that's my insight on him lol
