His khl contract ends at he end of next season and i'd like to know more about him. He's doing well and at 5'11 207 pounds hes not super small. Didnt find a thread on him apologize if theres already one.

He's got skills but is pretty small and bellow average skater.. some team might take a chance on him but I wouldn't bet on it

He's been pretty underwhelming in international competition, maybe he is product of his linemates.

Whats the story here? 25 year old 216 pound center who has been over or just below 1PPG in the KHL the last three seasons. Why aren't NHL teams giving him a contract?

:dunno: They are probably worried he might be product of his linemates (Zaripov/Mozyakin). But I have seen him in international competitions and I think he could be a good 3rd line C. Still, I hope he gets noticed someday and gets to play there for like a season to see how he does.

Why on earth isn't Jan Kovar in the NHL?

The guy has been tearing up the KHL for three years now and is only 26. Can't imagine there hasn't been interest in him. Does he just not want to come over?

I can't say I've seen him, but one hurdle might be the entry level system. Kovar would be free (assuming his KHL contract is up) to sign a contract without restriction next offseason. But up to this point, he would have had to sign an ELC (925K max guaranteed plus potential performance bonuses).

Kovar might have stood to earn more money by staying in Europe until he was old enough (27+) to get around entry level provisions. Roman Cervenka signed his CBA mandated one year ELC when he signed at age 26. Cervenka had an okay NHL campaign but possibly left some money on the table by not waiting a year. Cervenka went back after that season. The ELC system has been an obstacle for some older players. Atlanta seemed like they were always on the verge of getting Ilya Nikulin to come over, but it never happened.

That's true, but he could just ask for a bunch of money in performance bonus's like Panarin did.

People were expecting a lot of Cervenka because Jagr and Feaster said he was the best player in the world outside the NHL.

The issue would be whether he could achieve the bonuses like Panarin, or if he'd end up something closer to Cervenka. It's a tough thing with age. Panarin was 23 when he signed, so it didn't benefit him to wait four more years.

According to EliteProspects, Kovar (at age 25) signed a KHL extension in May 2015. If he had opted for an NHL offer, NHL teams could only tender him a 1 year, two way ELC. If I were his agent, I would have warned of the dangers of possibly getting sent down and making a fraction of what he might get for staying in the KHL.

Cervenka got a 1 year deal with max bonuses, but I don't think he came close to achieving those.

Probably. He's one of the few guys still in somewhat of his prime though.

Somewhere, in this world, Jay Feaster just picked his head up and may be covered in ectoplasm. He's wishing for a GM job with that idea on the table.

Probably because he's not good enough? I mean guys that are good enough to be NHL players are, unless they suffer a BAD injury

Looks like Kovar benefits greatly from playing with Mozyakin. If anything they scouts should've been looking at bringing Mozyakin to the NHL if anything.

Like that Radulov guy for the last 8 years.

Kovar isn't even the best player on his line. Mozyakin will never go to the NHL for some reason though.

While he's damn good and NHL caliber, a lot of his production actually comes from Mozyakin. He's the one who could've been a star in the NHL had he wanted to play here.

Panarin. Tyler Johnson. Giordano. Bozak. Bellemare. Melker Karlsson. Cam Talbot. Krug. Dekeyser.

If you wanna go older Niklas Backstrom (goalie), Rafaski and MSL.

All undrafted FAs that made the league later on as FAs.

Mozyakhin, Kovalchuk, Tkachev, Barabanov, Shipachev, Barulin for example could all have had (or still have) NHL contracts if they wanted to. Thinking the NHL has the best 690 players in the world is extremely ... NA-centered.

Mozyakin is on pace to be the highest scoring player ever in the KHL history.

If you can stay at home and be a legend while getting more money than any NHL team can give you, why not?

No not like radulov at all he had a history in the NHL we knew he was good enough we didn't know if his attitude had changed

No way, 2 words. Sergei Mozyakin, Kovar is the primary beneficiary of the legend Mozaykin. Not to mention Kovalchuk is looking very good this year, still head and shoulders better than Kovar. But the point is Mozyakin, take it from a guy who has watched 60+ MMG games over the past 3 years. Many of Kovars goals are just going to the net with his stick on the ice (maybe eyes closed) and Mozyakin threads the needle 9 times out of 10....

Now if your wondering why Mozy isnt in the NHL, well this has been addressed by one of Columbus's scouts at the World Championships. Said they have made him multiple offers throughout the years to come over, tried to convince him that he could be a star.
