I am wondering if anyone has any video or thoughts on Hudson Elynuik, a 6-2 175 centre who is playing for Kootenay in the WHL Playoffs. Considering he is a late 97 who doesn't turn 16 until next December, he has great size and I have heard that they are expecting big things from him.

I have seen him in both WHL and in aaa. He's been solid all year. Gets physical. Bit of a choppy stride. Smarts are coming along. Can really play a lot of roles. Like his size but needs to bulk up. Should be a good hockey player

Hudson Elynuik is no doubt a great hockey player. He got called up to Kootenay at the end of the season this year and has done quite well for playing against Edmonton (best eastern team), Calgary (second best), and Lethbridge. Elynuik has a big frame that he will grow into, just in the last year hes put on about 25 pounds or so. I think he still needs to get settled into the WHL routine, but next year I wouldnt be suprised if hes flanking Reinhart.

saw him today for the first time, strong on the puck, good hands but needs to get stronger on his feet, getting pushed when he was hit, and was on the slower side, but that's not unreasonable for someone as young as him playing 20 year olds in the whl playoffs. showed he can keep up with the game speed of the whl at a young age, he should be pretty good for years to come.

Another goal tonight.

He's been hot with 25 points in his last 20 games.

Really curious about a scouting report on him.

He's okay but nothing too special. Won't be a high pick but could be taken in the later rounds. His recent increase in points is due to being moved to the 1st line because of injuries. He's doing well with increased responsibility but Yamamoto is returning soon which will change things.

Received a game misconduct last night for this hit on Devon Skoleski. Might be looking at a suspension. What do you guys think?

To me it just seems like a big check. He was given a major for charging but he changed direction and never took a stride before the hit. The hit itself looks legal(hip check, no head contact, player had the puck). A basic search doesn't show that blindside hits are illegal in the WHL and I know they aren't in the NHL. I'm obviously biased as a Chiefs fan but honestly I was mad at Elynuik before seeing it because this penalty lost them the game but after seeing it I don't think it was worth 5 + supplementary.

edit- With that said I wouldn't be surprised if he did get a suspension. The WHL wheel of justice is even more unpredictable than the NHL one. But I personally wouldn't give him one on that play. If they give him like 9 games I'll be mad but if it's 2 then I won't complain.

Signed an ATO with Carolina's AHL affiliate. Is he ready for the AHL or another year in Spokane?

He'll need another year in the WHL.... I just hope we can flip him for a prospect and pick. In my opinion he was by far the most frustrating Chief to watch this year. For every nice goal or assist that he had there were 2 lazy turnovers or bad passes and his back checking left a lot to be desired.

Yes. If nothing transpires, he’ll re enter the draft. He’s not been bad either, I can see a team using a 4th or 5th on him.
Habs need depth at center. If his skating is there can see them taking a flyer on him in late rounds. We have 3 picks in 4th round.

Bump

So, he played in that Rookie tournament cited above and got suspended for a brutal hit on the Laval guy. Then he was injured for the first 6+ weeks of the ECHL season. Was very frustrating player for the first month or so, but has really come on strong since Christmas and now is a PPG player and making impressions. I expect he will earn an ELC with the Leafs this year and is being groomed for that physical 4th line Center role Babcock loves - like Brian Boyle, Freddie Gauthier.
