Elite speed, physically gifted centerman. Has most of the physical tools to be a force at the next level. Blows past defenders in the neutral zone and can backcheck in a flash when engaged. A controlled exit/entry machine. Gavin has good hands and will make you pay when given space, and he is not afraid to make difficult passes through traffic. Can we assume he will represent Canada internationally?

I mean, I guess...but why not go to Des Moines, you'd have the inside track to be a top 2 center there and have the long game available of going to college...

Most Canadians still want to play in the CHL. That would be my guess.
He was born in Florida and had a college commitment to UNO. Also, he almost certainly told somebody something because if a team takes you that high in Phase II (3rd overall), there's a good chance there were some assurances made. I don't know Tri-City's situation, to be fair, but meh...it is what it is. Hope it works out for him.

Being born in Florida means nothing. He grew up in Western Canada with far greater exposure to the Dub. It's not like his parents are from Massachusetts or Minnesota where NCAA hockey is king

From what I understand a few of his old minor hockey teammates are on Tri City including Jordan Gavin so maybe that played a part in to it.
