He was born in Florida and had a college commitment to UNO. Also, he almost certainly told somebody something because if a team takes you that high in Phase II (3rd overall), there's a good chance there were some assurances made. I don't know Tri-City's situation, to be fair, but meh...it is what it is. Hope it works out for him.

Being born in Florida means nothing. He grew up in Western Canada with far greater exposure to the Dub. It's not like his parents are from Massachusetts or Minnesota where NCAA hockey is king

From what I understand a few of his old minor hockey teammates are on Tri City including Jordan Gavin so maybe that played a part in to it.
