...oh yes, it is time to start discussing Blade Jenkins - f - 5'10 165lbs.

The Wolverine recruit is honestly one of my favs coming out of the 2000' birth year and IMO will be a Dylan Larkin type player - two way responsible, with grit, wheels, and soft hands.

Invited to the USNDP tryout where I expect him to be on the team for the next 2 years.

Well, Blade (not the vampire killer) will have some tough decisions ahead.

He just got picked 4th overall by Saginaw at the OHL priority draft! :handclap:

First American player taken and taken so high speaks volumes for his skillset where Saginaw is willing to wait a minimum of 1 year to get him as he has accepted the USNDP invite to play for the u-17 team. If he backs out of his commitment I would be floored but either way this kid is legit and has the chance to be another top-end star forward that this country is producing.

Also has a commitment with Michigan to go the NCAA route, interesting to see the all out push Saginaw puts on Blade to get him to jump.

Very happy for Blade and his family today and the future. Can't wait for many others to start getting familiar with this young man.

Yeah was STUNNED we took him with the fourth pick. That's a pick you use for a franchise player. While Blade could really be that, even best odds I would put the chances of him coming here at 30%. Although maybe Drinknell noes something we all don't. Idk, either way I'm gonna have to head out to Plymouth a few times next year to check out not only him but also Bode Wilde (yeah our GM is crazy huh?).

Have to wonder if Saginaw wasn't enamored with the draft class this year. They take Jenkins and when he doesn't report, they can declare him defective and get a super high pick again next year. Then if they want to (should Jenkins want to come to the OHL after his U17 year), they could trade his rights for a boatload of extra draft picks. Good way to work the system if you don't like what's out there.

Then they could focus their attention on trying to get Wilde to report next year (also after his U17 year), because if he did it would be like having a top 5 pick this year anyway.

Smart IMO. Especially considering Saginaw drafted so well last year and has a tremendous group of 99's in place.

What's with all the fantastic names for these younger guys?

I mean we already have Sam Steel and Kailer Yamamoto, and now we get a Blade Jenkins as well?

Blade's father said he will play for the NTDP next season. Beyond that is the question mark.

Keep in mind, Blade is committed to Michigan, but next season could be Red Berenson's last (for like the 10th year in a row...). Even Red said he came into this past season expecting it to be his last but now he changed his mind and will return next season. If Red does finally hang'em up after next season, and depending who replaces him, that could definitely be a factor for recruits and could give Saginaw the opening they need to get Blade to join them. Risk/reward.

Oh, I know it was. But that doesn't mean that Saginaw wasn't crazy about it. The fact that they went completely bold with their first two selections points to that. Plus, there's been reports that (like Flint), they had some kids suggest they wouldn't report if drafted by them.

Thus Saginaw feels like they can roll the dice.

Sounds like a name you would expect from 1980s skiing movies
From IMDB: Blade Jenkins saves the mountain from evil corporation with help from gratuitous nudity.

Seriously though he'll be one to watch next year. I'm just going to assume he's a mid to late first round pick and let his play next year move him up or down accordingly. Definitely a player of interest for a Red Wings fan, who I am.

The Wings will definitely have an eye on him with Osgood being part owner of the team now.

I thought the same, but I am hearing they knew he was going to OHL, therefore ice time was very limited. I am sure he will help right away.

He just wasn't good enough. Atleast not in the 3 games I saw. He is a poor skater and isn't talented enough in the other areas to make up for his skating at higher levels of play. In the 3 games I saw I thought he was the worst player in all 3.

nice start to the year for Blade in the OHL. He looked good in the 2 games I saw from Saginaw so far. He is making a case for himself to be a nice mid -3rd rounder after a very poor USNDP season.
