Absolutely no talk on the undrafted junior aged prospect who the Blackhawks are considering giving a 9 game regular season trial. He was even on a line with Kane at one point in the preseason and has been putting up points. What do the Hawks have in him? Quite rare a teenager comes out of nowhere like this, but it happens a year after his Rouyn-Noranda teammate Philippe Myers did the same just one year earlier.

Fortin has good offensive instincts - can shoot and pass very well. He has above average speed. He reminds me of Mike Hoffman with his speed and the way he skates. Probably still too raw to stay with the team other than a couple games to have a look at him in real NHL action. He has a chance to be a nice player but probably still a year or two away.

This has been a great story and as a big fan of Rouyn-Noranda I'm really rooting for Fortin. Hope he makes that opening night lineup. I watched most of the game the other night (waiting for the Avs game they never put on but I digress) and a small taste is probably what's best for him and then to go back and have another good year with the Huskies. It's not a surprise at all that the organization is churning out quality prospects, it's a great development system up there in RN.

Fortin got cut and sent back to Rouyn-Noranda.
Hopefully he gets some 1st line minutes and PP time this year to see how much he can improve on last year's point totals.

Having seen Fortin played for the past 4 years his play with the hawks has been a bit of a surprise for me. He was a bit of a frustrating player to watch last year with the Huskies as he was missing a ton of chances and was making questionable decisions but he had a great memorial cup and his confidence has just keep rising since. I'm curious to see how he perform this year with the Huskies as a top line player, all kudos to him for getting a contract with the Hawks and proving everyone wrong.
