I know the Leafs are off after tonight for 7 days including the all star weekend (meh, won't even bother).

But I didn't realize most of the teams around the Leafs are also off...

BOSTON: Feb. 2-10
BUFFALO: Feb. 2-10
CAROLINA: Feb. 2-10
FLORIDA: Jan. 29-Feb. 5
OTTAWA: Feb. 1-10
TAMPA BAY: Jan. 29-Feb. 5
TORONTO: Feb. 2-9

Literally almost nothing Leafs related for quite a while. Tampa's gonna play Florida, San Jose and Colorado the 6th, 7th and 9th, so will use up 3 games in hand sitting (before tonight) 5 points back which will be painful to watch. Other than that there won't be much other movement until we play columbus back to back 10th and 11th, while Boston starts back up and plays Washington the 11th.

What the heck am I supposed to do for almost a week without scoreboard watching? Re-introduce myself to my wife? Buy a dog? Clean the garage?

Ugh!!

NHL bye weeks for 2022-23 season

Leafs are third in the East and NHL, there’s a game that some people might watch and Matthews bailed on for the lulz, and Boston naturally has an extra day because of course, having crept back up in GP.

They’ll beat them, but then they play Columbus and Chicago twice each after and Montreal and will lose at least two of the games, maybe two and an OTL.

What a time to be alive.

I watched a US broadcast of a sporting event one day last weekend... it was bliss. Not one betting ad... NOT ONE!!! I effing hate them, or at least how many of them there are.
I can honestly say that I never really noticed them or any commercials really until reading about it on here.
Now that I've noticed it seems like they just play the same 5/6 commercials over and over with 80% being gambling related.

It is a little ridiculous for sure. Not much of a gambler myself... Might go to a casino once every 3-4 years to play some slots, but I'm a "spend 50 bucks max and when it's gone, I'm done" kinda guy. But you gotta wonder how many guys that "think they know more than everyone else" spend large chunks of their paychecks on these betting apps, with very little left for food and rent. Would be curious in a year or 2 to see the divorce rates after legalized online betting kicked in in Ontario. I bet it's quite a bit higher than before.

I use to play the horses and cards when I was young but once I had kids money became much more important so I've done very little since then and only small amounts.
One thing I learned at a young age is, you can't gamble if you're afraid to lose.

At least the casino doesn’t give you 200$ in free gambling money just for showing up as well as more money for every friend you convince to come to the casino and gamble through another 200$.

I’m not going to tell adults what to do with their time and money, but there’s something very wrong with having a team of PhDs at these companies focusing on nothing but making their product as addictive and profitable as possible. There’s probably thousands of expensive man hours put into figuring out exactly how many spins of a digital slot machine the average person needs to get addicted to the dopamine hit of the flashing lights, sounds, and a number that you’ll never be able to cash out going up. Someone looked at video game/TikTok addiction and thought “hmm.. I bet I can use this to bankrupt people..”

Hell the bet99 ad is proudly showing people with gambling addictions so crippling that they can’t wait 10 minutes for their friend to come back with takeout without betting money on whether he forgets the wings or not and pretends this is normal and fun.

There isn’t a team at Marlboro or Bacardi researching exactly how many free smokes or bottles they need to offer you to maximize how many friends you convince to start smoking or drinking, we realized that was a bad idea 50 years ago.

No problem. Dubas is gonna make a blockbuster and then we can all come here in and passionately argue about how the player is only 5'11" and not 6'0".

Seriously though, common trades.

Too cold for cleaning garage and a dog would keep your wife too busy. In the evenings, I'll be keeping the TV running, the beer flowing and the budzz burning while watching YouTube for a week. Here's a good start:

You could always watch the all-star game.

I know it sounds crazy. It's like anyone who wants to be taken seriously has to complain about it. But it's actually fun. I'll be watching with my kids again this year. Try it. It's just a bunch of cool hockey stuff without the stress of cheering for one specific team.

I can never find anything good here in BC. I wanted a bottle of MM Cask Strength, same thing.
I've tried a number of Bourbons since getting into it over the last couple of years and now I've figured out which ones I like the best. Not sure what's available for you in BC but here's my list in case it helps.

There's only two that are usually available here, the one I already mentioned and Woodford Reserve Double Oaked.

Then there's Weller Antique, Eagle Rare and Blantons which are all Buffalo Trace products and lately seem to come to Ontario about twice a year, they have a limit of 1 bottle per customer and they sell out fast so you have to act fast. Finally, I recently I discovered Knob Creek Single Barrel which is aged 9 years, Single Barrel 120 proof, when that's sold out I have no idea when it will come again but I have one unopened bottle that will have to last a while. I generally prefer my whiskey neat but that one I need to drink over a block of ice, just too strong without it.

Four Roses Single Barrel might get added to my list. It's supposed to be awesome, I tried that and Woodford Reserve Double Oaked at the same time, I preferred Woodford but now that I think about it, I really should give Four Roses another try (just because I preferred the Woodford at the time, doesn't mean that Four Roses isn't excellent as well) and that could get added to my list of faves as well.

There's also the basic Buffalo Trace which is less pricey, I keep a bottle on hand for when I just want a shot of something and am not really thinking about the taste experience so much. It does actually taste quite good, just not on the same tier as the others.

I find distiller.com a good place to read about stuff you're thinking of trying. Ignore the "sort by" rating out of 100, I don't know what that is but it seems useless. The relevance rating where the max score is 5 is based on user ratings and I've found that to be very helpful.

It's gonna be a long week. Cheers!

Love it!

Woodford is amazing. Have a fresh bottle waiting for the weekend.

Blanton's? Yowza. If I find some here, I'm getting the whole pallet.

KC is great too. Firey. After reading your post, I see that BCLiquor has a few Cask Strengths available. I'll make a stop today.

Fully agreed on 4R. It didn't quite do it for me, but it's due for another sipping.

In conclusion, bourbon is amazing.

Agreed, bourbon is amazing. I used to only drink single malt scotch, but I've come to love bourbon as well over the last couple of years and scotch has gotten so ridiculously expensive. Very different drinking experiences of course but IMHO, the bang for the buck is so much better when it comes to bourbon.

Argue about minutia on HFBoards, like everyone else will be doing? Propose a trade. Discuss the greatness of Engvall.
Currently watching a National Geographic documentary on Giraffes

I'm tempted to try the Bourbon road. Thanks 4 the encouragement
