Because I never knew that bit of trivia.

As an aside, I just looked up that draft, and guess who was picked 8 picks after McCrae? Elite defenseman Justin Falk. 3 picks after Benn? Chris "3rd most games played from the 2007 draft's 5th round" Terry.

I'm convinced that when the time comes for me to make a GDT, the wait will have been worth it. I've got some GDT ideas that might just redvolutionize the way we do GDTs.

From what I can tell, these are pretty even teams that go about it differently:
Canes: 12-11-7 (4-3-3 in last 10)
Buff: 12-11-6 (5-3-2 in last 10)

Both teams have had the same Strength of Schedule.
Both teams are equal on Face Off % (6th and 7th in NHL)
Canes score more 5v5 goals; Buffalo Allows less 5v5 goals.
Canes are a better possession team, but Buffalo has the 3rd best SV% in the NHL where-as Carolina has the 30th best SV%
Canes have the best PK% in the NHL, Buff has the worst.
BUFF has the 3rd best PP% in the NHL, Car has the 6th best.

So the Canes are a little better offensively 5v5, much better on the PK and a better possession team, but the Sabres have much better goaltending. Most of the rest seems pretty equal.

With both teams playing last night, you never know what to expect, but should be a matchup of pretty even teams.

Buffalo has not been good most of the year, they don`t score a lot, and don`t let in too many, so that`s a good thing, but they haven`t looked good, but now when Eichel is back, they are looking much better.

Canes have looked much better than them.

Not factored in is Eichel being out for majority of the season.

Yep, that would definitely help their scoring some, but even if Eichel was there for the full season, they'd still be near the bottom in Goals For and really good for Goals Against.

Not to say that won't change because they are a young team would could get better and better as the season progresses. I think their bigger issue is they've gotten only 3 goals all season from their entire defense. In contrast, the Canes have 12 goals from the defense this season.
