Value of: Buchnevich to Montreal

Ahha, I've forgotten about this. But even then Montreal will have a lot of cap space next season. No Dvorak, and Armia, it's almost $8M. Plus current $7.5M. Plus the cap goes up.
Until the start of the season Montreal has around 8 mill in cape pace not including the cap going up, or the players they need to sign to fill out a team.

Habs have the cap space they do because of Price on LTIR, which they only do at the start of the season as that's the best way to maximize that.

Considering both the player and team just made a 6-year commitment to each other, I'd say the chances he's traded before the extension even comes into effect is next to zero. I guess if a team offered an absurd overpay then the Blues would have to consider it, but I doubt that will happen.

Blues should be open to moving Buchnevich with their winger depth they have coming, but he's one of the few top-6 quality wingers on the roster today. Maybe if Snuggerud, Stenberg or Bolduc pop he'll become available...but it seems unlikely at the current moment he's moved.

With Demidov coming next season it would be helpful for Montreal to get a veteran Russian player to help Ivan to get used to NA life. And Buch is still a pretty good player signed for $5.8M till 30/31 season.
What are you offering

Montreal shouldn't have interest in top9 wingers this year or next.

Maybe after that if Laine leaves and none of the kids can take his top6 spot.

Habs are more likely to trade away a top9 inger player/prospect than bring one in.

You obviously have to give to add a prime age established scoring winger to your team.

Hage and a strong 1st round pick (top 2 protected) would be the main value.

However the Blues have a glut of forward prospects on the cusp: Dvorsky, Snuggerud, Stenberg and Stancl (who is making a big move right now) all look legit and in similar timing as Hage.

[Major RHD prospect is also a Blues need but not too much else ... you offering Reinbacher?]

late edit: LM absolute FAO at someone being "angry" at this reply. Trade ideas with Montreal begun by a non Blues fan never go well, they make me "disappointed" (where's that emoji?) because I want the fans of Montreal to be the top fans, they have the great legacy team. But the fan interactions are thoroughly underwhelming

Nope. Keep your prime aged scoring winger. We're good

Yep it's kind of a bad proposal for us to field, unless you wanted us to give up value for something that doesn't cost you (which we obviously aren't interested in)
Hes just not a fit for the rebuild. Especially at his cap hit. There's no sense gutting the farm to get a 28 year old winger

If Montreal were to add a veteran W from Russia, Nichuskin would be the best fit. They are stacked with dynamic offensive wings already. Question is would Colorado be willing to accommodate. I suspect not

28 is bad I forgot! You can't win with those guys

Agree it's not a timing match, both teams are trying to get back in it with their prospects

I agree with the logic. If, (more probably when) Demidov experiences a rough patch, having a veteran Russian could help with the homesickness/culture shock that he might go through.

In the next 3 years it is likely that the entire league knows Stl has to move a winger and therefore Stl would have little leverage.

Moving a winger in the next year or two seems like a good idea.

The problem with moving Buchnevich is that he plays a 200ft game - something Stl will need with 21 year old wingers in the lineup. But I think there’s probably a way a trade like this could occur. You all will probably have a better chance prying one of the younger forwards away from stl as they will eventually have too many, but one way or another it’s super likely a good one or a young one leaves within 3 years.

I thought Buchnevich in Philly with Michkov sounded like a good idea and so does this one. I just don’t know that stl can do it. It’s a good concept as it solves 2 problems: 1 being the habs getting a legitimate country mate for d , the other being preventing Stl from having too many wingers down the road and losing one for peanuts.
