Gut reaction this sucks. And we gave up a 2nd jesus. But if we manage to make the playoffs we should be a PIA I guess.

Edit: Got a 2nd, it's Friday ;)

This isn't some Greek tragedy. Buch is not a true first liner and not a line driver.

We all knew he was the odd man out with the spoils on wing.

He's a good to very good player who in inconsistent.

Blais is not done developing either. Maybe he becomes a Coleman clone. He's now going to be attached at the hip to Goodrow.

If Blais is Adam Hall on the Rangers (remember his an an emerging power forward in 2006?) then it's a wiff, but if Blais has a Brandon Prust/Fedotenko impact on the team the next 3-5 years, they're in business.

It shows you that once again, we the fans overvalue Buch.

I think most here overvalued Buch, myself included. I don't think we're doomed to failure because of this by any stretch of the imagination.

On the contrary, I think Buch was under-valued here. I think he was the player who really drove play on whichever line he was on. I wouldn't be shocked to see a couple of stars struggle without him this season.

Blais as a player makes sense for the blueprint the team is going after. He is definitely a hard-to-play-against type of player. I think just a 1st leaves some holes in our roster. Thomas was probably not in the equation, ever. STL would probably do Thomas <-> Buch one for one or +4th or lower. Can't see the 2nd add. Thomas is a 2nd line player with some growth potential. only 22 years old.

That's fine, even Thomas for Buch straight up is better than Blais and a 2nd. And again, Blais is the type of player you can get with a 2-5th round pick, or someone you can generally get in FA when the time comes for your team to contend. He's not a player you want to move one of your top 6 forwards for. And it's not so much adding Blais as not getting back a reasonable return for Buch.

Also, with Goodrow now, and Rooney, and Barron in the works, I just don't see the need to get Blais in return for one of our best trade chips.

It's an asset management problem.

Not trolling. Serious

Lol. Well then I think you are just about all alone on an Island, with Drury.

Frankly, there is nothing exciting about Blais..... at all. He's the type of player you can get through a 2nd-5th round draft pick or through FA most years.

There was as much chance of the Rangers acquiring Thomas for Buch as Point was part of the McD trade.

As much as I love Buch, he's been mostly neutralized in the post season. I think Drury and co. have noticed that as well. He's great with open space available but when things close down he doesn't have nearly enough skill to compensate.

It was overpayment, but I don't think this trade will be that bad in the long-run. We dodged another potentially large contract to a guy who's good but not great coming off a career year in a shortened season. I think over the long haul he's a 50 point player on average.

Thomas still hasn't shown he is going to turn into what people wanted. He'd still be a gamble. Now if you said Kyrou, I might agree. Thomas still may, but nothing he has done so far suggests he's worth more than Buch right now.

And yes, I get that Thomas is still 22.

But STL is in a transition retooling phase. They're shipping out vets, not yutes.

He's played 8 career playoff games.

He has 5 games of actual playoff experience, most of which was spent in limited minutes under AV. He sucked in the bubble too, but so did everyone else.

I don't think hes a guy who gets you through the playoffs either, but 5 games isn't enough to make that assertion

Rangers " we want to take the next step which is why we fired JD and Gorton"

Rangers " we're good with getting worse"

That would send a good message

The Rangers with Mika, one of the guys I mentioned above, Chytil maturing, Goodrow, and Rooney...that may actually be a better group down the middle with a real coach and some sandpaper.
