I think it’s all about Buch being viewed as a soft, inconsistent player who needs elite talent around him to be productive in the NHL. I suspect a lot of people here are suffering from recency bias and not looking at his entire career. Buch had a great season but overall has been average to below average in many areas of his on ice game.

still, he’s being sold on a high.

Rangers have 22M with 19 players signed for this year now.. If Strome goes like 26M depending on what he's traded for could be 23-24 or the full if traded for futures.. with only Shesterkin and Chytil to worry about as RFAs now

If we don't get Eichel and trade Strome, our center corps is going to be even worse than last season lmao.
Danault could do okay, even if it's not very exciting (and it comes with the Mika extension). My worry is they sign Landeskog, who has almost only played wing, to play center for a free agency special

Can Blais take on Tom Wilson 1v1?
Let's take a look at his last fight:

Question at this point is, will Adams take Strome? Or involve a 3-way. Im resigned to expecting Eichel being a Blueshirt by end of business today.

I don't see us paying for Eichel at all. I don't want us to either. But unless the price comes down substantially, it's not happening. If you are expecting Eichel to come to the NYR, I think you are just setting yourself up for disappointment.

@Edge Do you know the direction that Drury wants to go? I understand wanting to get the right guys for the 3rd and 4th line. I get Strome for a solid vet defenseman, and hopefully a trade for Larkin but honestly whats the plan when/if strome is traded?

Also i saw that you mentioned Krieder is possibly being dealt. Whats the idea behind that? Cap clearing or to add to something else to get that young top 6 center?

Trust me I'd rather not see him come here

He doesn't really troll. His takes are unconventional sometimes but a troll he is not.

rofl. Nevermind. Did you see that bird pass by? Really you didn't? It went right over your head though........

And sometimes, there is little difference with being extraordinarily unconventional and being a "troll".

For example, suggesting you are VERY excited to see what Blais will do here...; after offloading one of our top 6 forwards for an afterthought and a 2nd round pick.

This is why I never liked the idea of trading Strome.

With Buch out of the picture, is there now room to slot Chytil at wing (where I think he will perform better)? Then go out and get a proper 3C. No need to big game hunt for Eichel.

I dont understand why people think that we would get someone back of equal talent when every GM in the league knows that we would never sign Buch to a LT contract with the other pieces we have and he is an RFA likely looking for 5-6 years at $6M. Also, waiting for the deadline usually returns draft picks and prospects rather than established players so I dont know what you all were expecting there. Is buch better than form what I know about Blais...yes...but it frees up top 6 spots for our young talent and solidifies our bottom 6. There needs to be balance.

I would have been happy with either Thomas and the 2nd or just a straight up 1st with or without Blais.
Blais as a player makes sense for the blueprint the team is going after. He is definitely a hard-to-play-against type of player. I think just a 1st leaves some holes in our roster. Thomas was probably not in the equation, ever. STL would probably do Thomas <-> Buch one for one or +4th or lower. Can't see the 2nd add. Thomas is a 2nd line player with some growth potential. only 22 years old.

I definitely thought we could get more for Buch but that said as much as it hurts on paper or stupid analytics it shows we with our youngsters and goals etc have plenty of scoring so in essence it's one player with an abundance of said skill set which is scoring which we supposedly have or had plenty of for another player at the top of his skill set which we lack.

So yes it's underwhelming to say the least but looking at the glass have full I do like blais he seems better than what he is being given credit for. Yes his intangibles are great checking motor, grinding, toughness, cup, etc. But I think he has a better scoring touch than most think. Cannon shot a good wrist shot and should anyone else go from the right side kakko or Kravy and this guy could play RW he would fit ideally with bread man shooting one timers off those passes.

I know man it stings for multiple reasons but just trying to put a positive spin on it and it's basically one player at the top of his skill set that we seem to think we have plenty of for another player at the top of his skill set which me lack.

I feel like we asked for this when that poster went on the board with a novel explaining why the Rangers don't have a Tom Wilson problem and then a day later they ago ahead and make a trade very clearly indicating we have a Tom Wilson problem

It's not necessarily that people expected "equal talent". It's that we expected something more reasonable than Blais and a 2022 2nd. There's a difference. As others have said, something like Thomas and a 2nd would have been reasonable. Even a 1st and Blais.
