Bergeron adds another championship title to his career total, now at seven. Six Gold championships representing Canada and a Stanley Cup, Impressive.

2004 IIHF World Ice Hockey Championships: World Ice Hockey gold
2005 IIHF World U20 Championships: World Ice Hockey gold, MVP
2010 Winter Olympics: Olympic gold
2010–11: won Stanley Cup with Boston Bruins
2012 Spengler Cup: won with Team Canada
2014 Winter Olympics: Olympic Gold
2016 World Cup of Hockey Gold

It wss a preseason tournament. Most players on Canada weren't in mid-season form just like all the players on every other team. The Marchand - Crosby - Bergeron line is just something special and that's not a knock on anyone else.

Put Toews down there also.

International feats:
U-17 Gold
U-20 Gold (x 2)
IIHF WHC Gold
Olympic Gold (x 2)
World Cup Gold

Yeah, he's part of the Golden Generation along with a number of players (Crosby, Bergeron, Perry, Getzlaf, Doughty, Weber, Price, et al).

Like most others have noted; not including Toews is a bit silly. That is right on par for HF though...

JayBo wasn't a great pick. If you NEED left you could've had Brodie or Gio. Then they play Petro on the left...lol. I'd be interested to see whether the older guys come back in '18 if the NHL goes. Keith will be up in age/mileage. Weber is slowing down a bit too. Jaybo has already slowed down and shouldn't have even been selected.

Toews was good too. He played important/tough minutes for us.

a bunch of our dmen dropped the ball in the finals (defensively), sloppy play.

Weber and Bouwmeester were slow with decision making, especially the latter. He was a disaster. Burns was playing like an idiot. Vlasic, Doughty and Pietrangelo (mostly) were awesome. We clearly missed Keith in this tournament.

The bolded passages are spot on. In the three games I attended, Weber played very well. Doughty was all-world and Vlasic a beast defensively. We did miss Keith and given the emphasis on speed in this tournament, I would have used Subban in place of Burns and Ekblad or Reilly instead of Pietrangelo, who was too often a defensive liability. Bouwmeester, like Thornton, was just too old and slow for this tournament and a completely inadequate replacement for Keith. I would have used Seabrook as a sub before Bouwmeester. Muzzin was out of his depth.

Our forwards would have been better with the speed of McDavid, MacKinnon and Hall on the roster. Seguin and Benn were missed. But the forwards we did have did a good job overall, with Crosby's line outstanding as the primary offensive line and Toews's line equally outstanding as the checking line. Stamkos never looked dangerous and that comedic pratfall in the second period kind of summed up his tournament.

reilly isnt even a top 2 dman, and you would put him in team canada? :help:

Needed more Letang. Their defense couldn't carry/pass the puck up the ice.

No kidding, it was hilarious that he was left off, same for Subban.

No, HF fashion would be to over rate every single thing Toews does, while he was important, he really wasn't a huge factor in the tournament. It was carried by Crosby's line, Price coming up big when they needed him to and the Defense being solid at defense (crap at offense though).

Also, I notice it's mainly Hawks fans saying "What about Toews! What about Toews!"

Doughty was our worst dman in the last game, JBo was terrible in both games (except for a few occasions). Burns was brutal defensively, he was good offensively tho.

...as many have already noted, Canada's defence, which is usually their strongest suit, was a significant weak link the entire tournament:

Doughty constantly tried to do too much and just ended up turning over pucks or killing plays, especially in the Finals...
Weber's slowed down and was poorly used to boot; not using his cannon on the PP was ridiculous...
Vlasic's a defensive Dman first, not a puck-mover; pairing him with Weber was a mistake...
Burns, while he had a great year, is not what Canada needed from a RH puck-mover; there are better options available...
Pietrangelo was mediocre at best and is still living off his reputation at the World Juniors; it's time to get over this mind boggling love for him...
Bouwmeester shouldn't make Canada's 2nd tier team, if they ever put one together...having him take a spot from a dozen more deserving Dmen is a ****ing joke...
Muzzin??...really??...Muzzin??...gimme a break...
No Keith available really hurt and Subban & Letang both should have been on the team; Canada couldn't move the puck worth a damn with the defence Babcock put together...

...everyone praises Babcock as a coaching genius, but in this tourney he handcuffed his own team with the mediocre defence and his mindboggling usage of them...also, Claude Giroux's minimal usage was a terrible decision...Babcock made it far harder on Canada than any of the opposition did, imo...

Babs and TC seem to have "their guys" that they have on the ice no matter what, despite evidence to the contrary and guys who they'll limit or not even take eg. Subban, Giroux, Letang, Gio.

It's another old boys club in a way. In 2 years Weber might slow down yet I bet he'll still go.

2 Gold Medals, 1 World Cup.

What's the problem again? Their system works and they just went undefeated for crying out loud.

I mean, they mailed in a complete sweep of the tournament. I'd say they did alright as a team...even outside of that one line and goaltender.

What a terrible coach. Handcuffed the team to an undefeated run.

Sack him.

I'm guessing you didn't watch any of North America's games. He was one of their best defencemen. Ryan Murray and Parayko also showed they can play at this level. I definitely would have had Ekblad on the big team if not for the presence of Joke Team North America.

I was at a couple of the games at ice level, rink side and let me tell you, the speed of these games and level of play was well above regular NHL games. There was a lot of offensive firepower and the quality of play really exposed flaws. Burns, Pietrangelo and Bouwmeester should not have been on this team. Rielly is well on his way to being an elite defenceman and will be on the No. 1 pairing with the Leafs this season.

Honestly, if that Crosby line wasn't on fire, he wouldn't be undefeated. He's a boring coach, he was given an insane team and it still didn't perform to it's best capabilities, the other teams weren't at their best sure, but still...I hate when people pump Babcock just because he's their new coach.

The guy is archaic. You'll see after a few years.

I agree with many posters that Canada's defence was hampered by a lack of speed. They ought to have learned from our past successes that it's essential to have at least one outstanding, reliable puck-mover who can control the speed of the game, carry the puck through the neutral zone and get back fast in the event of a bad pinch or stretch pass. It was Coffey, it was Niedermayer (the best in my opinion), now it's Doughty but he's not as good as Neidermayer was in this situation and the speed of the game today means that the load has to be shared among more quick D-men. Subban should be on future versions of this team as should a Ryan Ellis type and an Ekblad. For a younger stay at home type with mobility try a Karl Alzner, a standout former World Junior captain who made it possible for Carlson to rove around. Alzner has taken his game to a new level in the past year.
