This is the first year in many that the Bruins have carried a decent amount of cap space through the year. Isn't it great? I'm so glad Sweeney didn't use the extra in the offseason to add a player that would make them better. This way he has it in his back pocket to make that major move during the season that they haven't been able to do, ever.

Maybe he can get rid of some other high dollar players and get into the 8 figure mark of cap space. Imagine all the options then.

Being in "cap hell" isn't so bad if you have good players. I'd rather be in the position to trade players rather than to acquire them.

I honesty believe some of that space left for Vesey and his bonuses so they wouldn't carry to next year.

Now that was also August so I get your point.

According to cap friendly.com, there are only six teams with more cap space than the Bruins.

So people want them to rebuild but are mad they aren't spending to cap? I think having the cap is a good thing it gives them flexibility in the trade and free agent market. No reason to jump and sign someone that fills the cap for the next two years that may cause them to miss on a deal in 6 months.

This team isn't winning a cup so sitting with cap room and waiting for a good deal is what they should be doing. Not going over cap trying their best to make the playoffs and slowing down the required rebuild.

can have all the cap space in the world, if UFA`s are out there and they are reading about disfunction, they ain`t signing

This team needs to hit the reset button in regards to gaining the reputation as being an organization players want to play for and have a chance to win with, right now, it`s a mess IMO

Possibly they thought marchand, pastrnak, spooner might be in line for raises?

Maybe they wanted to have room to jump on a dman when (if) one becomes available?

Taking on any contract that extends beyond this year will require some contract being jettisoned. I still expect us to add between 2 and 3 rentals this season... I understand the sentiment of this thread... but trust me it's the same thing as wondering why it rained yesterday and not today... why does good pizza have to cost so much... why did your car break down so far from home?

Sometimes it just happens

Trades don't happen until the trade deadline and by that time if you're team isn't any good it's way too late.

My point is what good is cap space if you don't use it? I've always heard here that we need to have it so we can make a trade, but that never happens mid-season.

Right here, right now, not because he's played well in NYI, but that Seidenberg buyout sure looks like a mistake. Done to create cap space they haven't and are probably not going to use.

Not sure how some of you guys/girls can ever root for this team again after reading through these threads over the last two days.

No joy in this anymore, the board to me has always been a place to be optimistic and vent about a game or trade or firing.

Some of this stuff is over the top.:shakehead

People will literally complain about anything. We need the cap space for the future. If we spent the money on a player with a long contract, the team would be in the same mess as they were during the end of Chia's era.

And that's the legacy we had before Chia came in with Chara and Savard. Players might have used us as a way of upping the ante (Modano) but they never really wanted to come here. It was a desert of mediocrity.

yep, now, fingers crossed here, but Chia worked hard to restore that reputation and put Boston on the map as a place of destination for UFA`s.

This one may take more time, I don` t know, but I wonder if asking NHL players how they felt about the B`s as a destination, not a ton would be signing on the dotted line with confidence that it`s a well oiled machine
