Sounds like a Ritchie deal needs to be finalized.
How much time do they have before they have to waive Brooks?

yeah either the leafs are still eligible to send him down without waivers or a trade of some sort has happened. one or the other.
Would anyone know the rules that apply in this situation? I can't seem to find them.

I would like to know whether the Leafs would have to put Brooks back on waivers to send him to the Marlies once he is off IR. That information seems to be above my pay-grade.

Hopefully Ritchie is dealt… Glad Brooks is back though, great 12th/13th forward.

I asked on the main board if the Leafs could send Brooks to the Marlies, without waivers, if the Leafs were the only team that claimed him. @uncleben advised that he thought they could, but acknowledged that the fact that Montreal waived Brooks after Toronto waived him complicates matters.

The right of a team to send a player that they lose and then reacquire through waivers has no time limit, but must happen during the same season.

Please note that it is possible, (but I think unlikely), that a team higher than the Leafs in the standings also put in a waiver claim.

I mean i can't honestly believe that they decided having Brooks as an extra forward was worth sending down Liljegren for any real amount of time. Something has to be coming.

Okay this is just dumb now. The trade better be close now.

options:

1. put brooks on waivers and hope he clears
2. send down Sandin or Liljegren
3. trade

So it's trade then, because waiving him again seems pointless

And I can't see them sending down Lilly and especially not Sandin

Yuck.
But maybe another move is pending.
Marlies do play a bunch the next few days.

there must be a corresponding move coming soon whether it’s a trade or something else. Might role with Dermott tomorrow if they can’t make something happen but can’t see this being a long term thing for Liljegren to be in the minors.

I guess we'll see. Liljegren was in his usual spot with Sandin in practice today, so likely they are in the process of another move.

They could do Dermott tomorrow, but you would think if thats the case, he would be with Sandin in practice today but it was Liljegren. Someone must have communicated with Keefe that we might get Brooks back.

I really like Adam Brooks, but it really seems like a step backwards.

The Leafs just had a game with a completely healthy roster: 12 forwards, seven defencemen and two goalies.

There is no cap-room to add a thirteenth forward unless they get rid of a defenceman by trading Holl or Dermott or demoting Liljegren. The roster had seen fairly settled and now it seems back in flux.

Unless they're able to send Brooks back down without clearing waivers, it seems they certainly must have other moves in mind.

Where ever he lands up, I'm hoping that Brooks will get a sustained shot in the NHL – but I'm just not sure it should be with the Leafs.
