No reason not too claim him unless they are short on cap which makes it tough. If nobody else takes him, you can send him to the Marlies so no issues then.

don't we still have to waive him to put him on the marlies?

not that I think anyone else would bother claiming him, of course.

If I'm not mistaken, (and possibly I am) Leafs get the first shot at claiming him no?

Or is it if they're the only team to put in a claim, they can send him to the AHL without putting him on waivers again?

No. Waiver priority remains the same.

If we are the only team to put in a claim, we get him and can send him straight to the AHL.

I could be wrong but thats only if someone else also puts a claim on him. If it's just us, then he can go straight to the Marlies

Engvall has played quite a bit of centre with the Leafs, including with Spezza. Why not just put him in that spot?

As I said, I think that Brooks is the better C, especially for an offensive role (which our 4th line is). Plus he's 500k cheaper.

Wasn’t he supposed to be A lock as Montreal’s third line center? :sarcasm:

either way, let’s claim him back and play him. Was the wrong move to keep Amadio

we can't send Brooks directly to the Marlies even if we are the only ones to claim because he spent more than 30 days on the Habs roster.

Leafs would need to waive him again (as Leafs property) to send him to the AHL.

I like the idea of claiming Brooks to bolster the team's depth at forward. Don't think he'd be anything more than that though. Something will obviously have to give too once Mikheyev is ready to return.

Engvall is currently playing on our shutdown line, so unless one of those guys is better than him defensivly sending him down seems questionable, at best

Record better with or without?

Don't care, he's useful depth

True. I'm getting ahead of myself to when Mikheyev is back and takes that spot.

If he is brought back I wonder how long it will take to get that Hab stench out of him?

That's going to be interesting, I'd put Engvall and Mikheyev on the market and see what's available for them

I Wouldn't Trade both but if I got offered a 2nd or 3rd for one of them I'd pull the trigger

Claim him and send him back down once Mrazek and Mikheyev come back, then hope nobody claims him

Pretty much this...

Semyonov has looked decent, but Brooks was a valuable depth piece down the stretch. Leafs have been lucky to stay pretty healthy so far this year. Claim him, keep him as the 13th forward for now. If a cap crunch comes, then to waivers he goes.
