Brooks claimed by Jets

Won't miss Brooks. Never much liked the draft pick to begin with, not that you can expect much from the 4th round.

Not much line matching going on in the preseason. But he was used similarly as the other bubble guys like Brooks, with similar linemates and in all situations. Brooks actually got a bigger opportunity than Amadio to start, playing in Matthews' spot. Brooks and Amadio were actually on the same line in 2 games.

Lines they were in:

Robertson - Amadio - Spezza
Brooks - Amadio - Gabriel
Seney - Amadio - Simmonds
Gusev - Brooks - Amadio

Ritchie - Brooks - Marner
Brooks - Amadio - Gabriel
Gusev - Brooks - Spezza
Gusev - Brooks - Amadio

Amadio's top 6 most common linemates were Brooks, Gusev, Gabriel, Spezza, Robertson & Semyonov. So only 1 guy that made the Leafs lineup

Brook's top 6 most common linemates were Ritchie, Marner, Simmonds, Engvall, Gabriel and Amadio. So 5 guys that made the Leafs lineup

Definitely can't say they didn't give him a chance to shine

Amadio did get way more PP time (9:03) than Brooks (3:12), but Amadio's units scored 4 PP goals so hard to argue against that. Brooks's didn't score

They said he wouldn't play until he's had full practices with the team, but it's only a matter of time.

wasn't it Dave Poulin who said that Nylander was expendable in a trade for defence because the Leafs had a drafted a gem in Adam Brooks? lmao

Toffoli - Suzuki - Caufield
Drouin - Dvorak - Anderson
Hoffman - Brooks - Gallagher
Lehkonen - Perreault - Armia

Gallagher and Hoffman might be their two best wingers.

So these are in fact the lines tonight. The Brooks line keeps getting listed as the 3rd line but on terms of wingers, last 2yrs scoring paces:

Hoffman 31gls/64pts
Gallagher 30gls/56pts

Toffoli 35gls/59pts
Caufield 25gls/32pts

Drouin 12gls/44pts
Anderson 18gls/29pts

So Brooksie is arguably getting the first line wingers.

Good for Brooks, hope he does well. Irrelevant to us... still wouldn't be in the lineup, nor should he be. Montreal has what, 3 goals so far this season?
 
Honestly I'd claim him back and try to sneak Engvall through. I think that Brooks is the better C, and that playing Spezza every game at C without rest is going to kill the goose that lays the golden eggs, or at least heavily impact production.

Engvall has played quite a bit of centre with the Leafs, including with Spezza. Why not just put him in that spot?
 
If I'm not mistaken, (and possibly I am) Leafs get the first shot at claiming him no?

Or is it if they're the only team to put in a claim, they can send him to the AHL without putting him on waivers again?
