Value of: Brock Boeser as a UFA

They are both outliers. Ryan Hartman scored 34 goals a couple of years ago, but no one is claiming that he is a "30 goal scorer".

Boeser is a 25 goal scorer with an average two way game.

17-18 29 goals in 62 games, 38 goals pace
18-19 26 goals in 69 games, 31 goals pace
20-21 23 goals in 56 games, 34 goals pace
23-24 40 goals in 81 games

Career goals per game 31 goals per 82 games


Hartman has 132 goals in 594 games which works out to 18 goals per 82 games. The 34 goals is almost double his career average.

The only outlier part of Boesers 40 goal season is that he actually played 81 games.

I know he has a whole story recently of family troubles right? not looking to be insensitive at all asking this....can someone provide me with the details of why its Van/Minny or bust and his great guy persona in this thread? Living in Rochester Ny I dont get to follow west coast guys as closely so I'm genuinely interested not trying to pry or be a jerk.

Not to discredit other NHL players but his story and path is different than most.

His sister has a development disability

His dad was diagnosed with Parkinsons while Brock was still young, then had a brain injury from a car accident and later dementia and cancer which he eventually succumbed to

His mom worked 3 jobs to support the family, as his dad could no longer work.

Before his draft year one of his childhood best friends was killed and another severely injured in a car accident. He wears the number 6 as both his late friend and dad wore that number.

While he was playing college hockey, a fan with down syndrome asked him to go prom with her and of course Brock made it happen

He's always smiling and laughing in interviews and posting about his dogs on social media. Obviously I'm not in the lockerroom but by all accounts his teammates love him.

Its hard not to cheer for the guy.

Hartman’s production in Minnesota’s top 9 is almost exclusively even strength. He does not get the benefit of PP1 time like Boeser does and aside from one year he does not get 1st line minutes.

To show you what I mean. Since the start of the 21-22 season (last 3.25ish seasons):

ES:
Hartman 229GP 64g 63a 127pts 14:11 toi/gp (ES)
Boeser 238GP 51g 71a 122pts 14:48 toi/gp (ES)

Hartman has 23 power play points (8 goals) during that timeframe. Boeser has 62 power play points (36 goals).

This is not to slight Boeser in any fashion. I think he is a great offensive player and someone I hope the Wild can add to their team. I just have to defend Hartman when someone is going to go after his career offensive totals and not include context (no PP1 time and played 4th line for a number of seasons on several teams). He is continually underrated as a player.
