If he's injured to this degree. Why is he playing?

Plain and simple. This is beyond stupid.

He was pathetic playing for team Sweden. He could have taken the rest, if he's actually injured.
Don't tell me an injury is not significant enough to warrant resting if a top 10 caliber C plays like a 3/4C on a team that is already mediocre.

The kid's been a cocky little shit since he entered the league, despite having just one full elite season to his name. Save the Michael Jordan routine until you've proven yourself. He could use a little humility and accountability. It's worked for Gretzky, Orr, Crosby, Howe, Beliveau, Harvey, Bourque, etc. His attitude is a big part of why people are so hard on him.
Sorry but screw you. He has not been a “cocky little shit. “ since he entered the league, he is an introvert. Do you not understand what that means?

Yes, he has been under performing for a year now. And I am sure that he is extremely frustrated with the situation. I suspect that he would love to be performing at the top of the league. Obviously. He is not but neither you nor anyone on this board Knows the whole story.

Last year pretty much everything went right except during the playoffs.

This year pretty much everything has gone wrong. That’s pretty much the history of the Canucks.

So whats your reasoning?

Every factor to consider = excuse.

So what is left?

So what is left? Maybe if you guys would actually listen to what people are saying, you wouldn't be so confused. I already explained my reasoning last week in this or that other dumb EP40 thread. Others have already covered it pretty intensively. You'll understand once EP40 isn't on the team anymore and you can start to see him without your fandom goggles.

you mean once we see another team rest him let him recover and he starts being a 100 pt center again and we'll be asking, so why did we not do that and ran him out of town instead?

Perfectly encapsulating the different opinions. You have this rose-tinted outlook that is based on your fandom that you are unable to see beyond. It's understandable, I was the same when I first started watching hockey.

After awhile you'll realize that this is a business and the players you are spending hundreds of posts defending, don't actually give a shit about the club and are happy to move on later in their career.

The players aren't getting tattoos of the Canucks logo. That's all on obsessed fans who can't overcome their emotional baggage.

Rather condescending attitude, there, buddy. A lot of us think it’s not time yet to abandon EP 40. And certainly not when his value is at a minimum. In my emotional baggage is going on 55 years still a fan still hoping and I think it would be stupid to give up on Patterson at this point.

It is better to run 100+ point selke level players out of town than to have a - <gasp> - introvert on the team

Nobody gives a f*** that Petey is an introvert.

If he just played and produced to the level he is expected to based on his AAV nobody would care, in fact everybody would love him just like they did whenever he played and produced well in the past.

I mean yeah no f***ing shit.
The gist of this thread is a bunch of folks believe that the reason he is underperforming is because he is playing injured and a bunch of folks believe he just plain suck for every other reason other then than playing injured.

Too cynical.

A lot of these players build strong friendships through their teammates and the community they play in.

I get a stronger sense of loyalty from hockey players than most sports. There is a strong sense of pride and I'd wager Pettersson cares a TON about the Canucks and how he is perceived throughout his career. We're talking about the guy that had to remove himself from social media.

It's always another excuse with this guy.... I wonder if management is at their wit's end with this player too.

I don't even know what to do at this point.

1 goal in his last 18 games. Maybe he has tendonitis in his knee, elbow, wrist and shoulder. Would explain why he is unable to skate, shoot, or pass.

There is clearly someone else in the locker room bothering him. Why can't you all just understand that fact. It is not his fault.

I find the idea someone can’t be professional in their dealings with media because they are an introvert offensive. And completely contrary to my experience.

There we disagree. They were never generating offense. They just shot at an unsustainable rate. (Maybe you remember the PDO talk that some here laughed at?)

Preface: I really dislike the available public data on expected goals but it's all we have other than our personal opinions right now.

According to Natural Statrick, up until mid Feb last season we were middle of the pack in expected goals for. And a handful of teams ahead of us on the list were anywhere between below .500 and just barely above, which suggests they were sacrificing defense for offense.

Its just that EPs decline in counting stats is so dramatic in part because there are no "residual points" to be had when the team doesnt generate chances when he is playing poorly.

This makes absolutely no sense. He's the #1 center, highest paid player, and touches the puck a lot on the #1 PP. He should not be relying on "residual points", he should be driving the offense and leading the way in primary points.

If your #1 center and highest paid player is going to become a ghost offensively and your #2 D-man misses half the season, your chance generation is going to suffer, regardless of team or coach.

Yeah, I'm sick and tired of all this media coverage of him being an introvert without recourse to discussing or weighing the value of anything else about him including his poor production.

I'm sure everyone realizes this, but as a formality I will say that the preceding sentence was a completely accurate description of what's happening. No one has taken umbrage with anything about him other then his introverted personality.

I mean you guys are the ones making up random reasons…

He is playing with an injured knee. if you are wondering why that affects skating.
It only takes a shot search to find out that
“The patellar tendon is responsible for knee extension by transferring force from the quadriceps muscle to the shinbone”.

If the main mechanism to transfer force from the quads to the tibia is compromised, then yeah no f***ing shit he looks weak/slow and can’t balance as well.
