I have an odd feeling that while he may not be a super star he'll be worth more than a 7th someday :\ oh well we didn't have room.

Happy for O'Neill if he gets his shot. He deserves a shot.

I'm not going to knock a 7th-round pick. I remember someone from the Kings' development staff hinted that they had tried to swing a deal at the draft (or trade up) but were short a 6th-round pick.

Best of luck to O'Neill. Seems like DL doing him a solid while also trying to get SOMETHING instead of losing another guy off waivers.

i am really happy for o'neill. he's a great player and he definitely deserves a shot.

i read a piece at TSN about the devils, and how they regret not bringing up their younger, dynamic players sooner, and how that stunted their growth as a team - so now they are looking to find younger offensive minded players.

i wish him the best.

I have the opposite feeling. I think his career will go about the same as Vey's. I just don't see his game transitioning to the NHL well at all. Glad we got something for him, everyone seems to be fighting over our waiver scraps.

He couldn't even break loose from stick checks in the preseason games. I agree. I love his skill, love his compete, fights through injury all the time, just can not seem to literally deal with NHL-caliber defense, not for a lack of will/effort.

I read it is conditional on how many games he plays and/or if he re-signs?

Correct:

Condition on that 7th rd pick NJD gave up to LAK for O'Neill is that NJ gives it up only if Devils re-sign O'Neill for 2016-17 season.

Hope he does well in NJ, he worked hard for this chance and they seem to be a team that could use what he brings.

Based on a few shifts in preseason? Isn't that a bit shortsighted?

Could be Alexandre Giroux/Corey Locke, could be Brian Gionta. Devils will find out. I'm happy for him getting an NHL shot.

Can't link it right now but someone on the main board trade thread pointed out that O'Neill destroyed Wilkes Barre Scranton in the AHL playoffs and John Hynes is with the Devils now. Could have been the impetus for the devils.
