After reading an article on the main boards about the best power forwards in the league, Burns was hardly mentioned at all. Burns has transitioned into way more of an effective forward then I think any of us envisioned and I think we have one of the hardest working, skilled, most underrated forwards in the league now and I love how nobody really knows how awesome he has become besides west coasters. So yeah! :yo:

I thought appreciation threads were only made when a player got traded, you scared me.

Burns was great while he was here, but I'm really excited to see what Ovechkin can do on Jumbo's wing

The 3 first rounders we also gave up are insignificant since we're in cup or bust mode right now

Lets be reality no Russians will play for DW. I'd like to welcome Evander Kane to the Sharks.

When Burns was first drafted..he was big, fast and could shoot but he was not good with the puck. I think when he was moved back to defense he really had to improve his puck handling and passing and he put in a lot of work and it shows.

I would appreciate him more if EA would get their roster update **** together. He's been missing from the roster since his injury even though he's been back for a while.

I appreciate Burns. After seeing him in the playoffs last year I stole him in my fantasy league draft. Besides the injury, dude has been awesome.

The man is doing work on the back end so far. Think he has it in him to keep up this pace?

Burns averaged barely 17 minutes per game last year as a top line forward. That is among the lowest in the league. He also did not play on the top PP unit. 48 points, 2nd PP unit and 17 minutes per game is not what you want from your top line winger "Power Forward" or not. He also went 19 straight games without a goal last season playing with Joe Thornton of all people. I don't think any player has ever done that with Jumbo as a linemate.

Thornton had very little to do with Burns success at forward. Plus it seems you forget Burns hit at least 12 to 15 posts in that span of 19 games. He was a monster at forward. He would have had an absurd 30+ goals in 60 some odd games. Mostly at even strength. That's ridiculous. He's an offensive machine at forward or defense.

I swear the last couple years at forward has helped his growth as a puckrushing defenseman. Just watching him do that power move in over time was great.

Burns is fine. And I mean FINE :naughty:

I thought he would be a disaster on the blue line and so far he has been great, at least offensively. He's on offensive d-man, and as long as he produces more chances than he gives up, that's fine.

I'm interested to see how he progresses as he gets a little more comfortable. I wouldn't mind seeing him paired with Vlasic and then have Braun play with Mueller.

I said it last season, and was somewhat laughed off stage, but Burns needs to be at defense because 16 minutes per game is not enough. He's far too talented to be running forechecking sprints like ThorntonWingerX. He needed more ice time. He's now averaging 6+ minutes per game over what he was playing last season.

I will concede that the Shorks PK has returned to the same form as when Burns last played D. And that is not good. Not as bad as last time, yet. But not good.

I get that the Sharks like Burns at forward, but when he left the Wild, he was on the upward path to being a #1 Dman. Yes, his play was always a little erratic, and getting to his potential was going to take him longer than most, but he was so nasty in the Dzone and so dangerous in the Ozone.

The PK has been good. The forwards need to win more face offs and clear more pucks though.

This isn't a game of "woulda coulda shoulda"

19 games without a goal? Yes. How many shots in those games? 67. 67 shots on goal without one going in. Not to mention the posts he would hit which don't count as shots. That's just bad luck.

I wonder if Pittsburgh is gonna use him as a D-Man or a winger? Still crazy that they gave us Malkin for him, but I guess it made a big difference that Burns had more points than him as a defenseman...

What the hell is this...

It was a joke, similar to sharski's post.

In all seriousness, I'm super optimistic about Burns' production. He has 38 shots on goal, 11th in the NHL. Keith Yandle, Erik Karlsson, and OEL are the only defensemen in the top 30 in shots. That's good company.

Unlike points, shots are pretty likely to stay on pace. If he ends up in the top-30 in the NHL in shots, that's good enough to make up for his defensive errors, and also makes up for his positivity as a forward.

He doing alright points wise for a defenseman but you know Crosby and Voracek have more points. Keep up man with the forwards.
