Seems like a lateral move with very little substance to it. One of those “eh, whatever” trades.

Lauko is pretty bad but plays with energy, which is nice, but yeah.

I don’t know enough about the other dude involved, hopefully he pans out.

Don't get this one, Braz at least can score when he's on. Would probably rather a late round pick lottery ticket as a return than Lauko. Nothing against Lauko who I like as a person

edit: assumed prospect was a nothing throw-in, happy if I was wrong with that assumption

It's a shame about Braz. I thought he might be something there in the first half but he really faded and couldn't seem to do anything to stay in the lineup. Maybe this will be the wake up call he needs.

Lauko is a terrific 4th liner. He's young, cheap and is going to be fun to watch opposite Kastelic.

The prospect is a bonus. Former 37th overall pick. Had a big season in the KHL in '23 and wore a letter as a 21 year old, played all year in the NHL but didn't really find his footing as a rookie. I'm surprised people are turning their nose up at a 22 year old, skilled, two-way center prospect.

They took a UFA that they signed out of the AHL a little over a year ago, that had a hard time in the 2nd half even getting into the line-up, into two younger RFA forwards both with decent amounts of NHL experience (Khusnutdinov will have over 80 NHL games by seasons end) who realistically MIGHT be 2 of your bottom 4 forwards (F10/11/12/13) next season.

Instead of having to go out on July 1st and sign a couple 4th line forwards and likely older ones. Most of their depth guys from this year won't be back.

This is far better than getting a mid round pick. It’s a guy who has developed a bit, highly skilled and ambitious and if he is ever going to be an NHL contributor, we’re going to know far sooner.

And we get Lauko back (RFA) who fit here and helps with our speed deficiency.

I couldn’t have asked for a better return for Brazeau.
