Schenn to the Leafs this year makes them favourites IMOSeems like a pretty steep price for a guy with 34 points on the year who’s paid 6.5M for this season and 2 more.

Hey I like Schenn. But 2 firsts in value with that contract seems a little rich. Even if we are asking the Blues to take back Domi. You’re not wrong to view it like that, so excuse the laughing emote. But Schenn to Leafs this year makes them favourites IMO
I guess you don’t see it and fair enough
Actually as far as a deal that’s probably reasonable?
But honest question. If you were to pick schenn or o Rielly who is better?
I'd rank Danford as a B prospect today.I’m a Leafs fan and I’m not sure Danford has that much value (I.e the equivalent of a first round pick). If he does, I’d rather add a bit more to the package above to reel in a bigger fish.

What cap space? You’re assuming Tavares and Marner are going anywhere other than being in Toronto? With the cap going up, and Tavares and Marner being UFA's, I see Schenn as a good fit for Toronto. Get a playoff run with Schenn, and hopefully some more runs with the cap space.
I'd rank Danford as a B prospect today.

Hey I like Schenn. But 2 firsts in value with that contract seems a little rich. Even if we are asking the Blues to take back Domi.
And it would create some cap issues this season and next.
If the Blues wanted to retain 3M so his hit was the same as Domi’s it would make more sense from our end but that would be a huge ask with the term left on his deal.
STL insiders say if Schenn is moved it will likely take high end/near ready prospects to facilitate a deal. Something that we’re not waiting 3 years on, like a late 1st rounder. I’m not high on Minten, but him and Cowan were mentioned to be the likely ask from Toronto.
Fit wise, Brayden Schenn is perfect for the leafs. Exactly the type of player Tre and Berube would love
Problem is, the cost and value. Blues will hold their captain to highest value and it's just gonna be way too much imo.
I agree, I dont think there is anyway St. Louis retains on any player with term left on his contract. Schenn would be an excellent fit in Toronto and under Berube.I think - value argument aside - I think we could see the blues retain half a mil to 1.5. I’m not saying I think that makes the deal fair. I’m having a hard time with this one. I personally think the Canucks are the bid to beat and I don’t think anybody else can come close. They have more specific need - Schenn is kind of an ideal JT Miller-Lite, more options for the return, less cap challenges to handle the deal - especially the 2 Schenns part. They both train in BC. Also, the Canucks are crazy enough to make big trades just whenever whereas the leafs seem more restrained. It doesn’t seem realistic to me for the leafs to fit 2 Schenns into their cap no matter how generous the trading partners - both of whom are smaller market/revenue clubs which would both be asked to retain a lot for a while. I think Vancouver is the one trying to 2 Schenn the deadline, and maybe the necessary strategy for any chance at getting them to waive their clauses.
I also think you all would get a defenseman back if the trade included a defensive prospect. I think we’d give you something that was closer to or already was ready for nhl minutes. Maybe the prospect going to stl would have a bit higher pedigree? Maybe not. I think it would be more about getting the leafs better on the ice and us better in the future - none of the pieces projecting to be top line players but also no bums. If we wanted a higher pedigree defensive prospect we better have a decent nhl ready guy.
I guess I think Schenn is worth a first and some. I’m not sure 2 firsts is where a deal would end up. I don’t think we automatically get to pick your best defensive prospect. I think we’d have to make the deal work to be able to ask for that, and that means helping your team today. Lots of you all are so much better at evaluating young talent: i don’t do that. I don’t know if kessel or tucker are candidates for playoff icetime or if they’re guys you would want to linger in the bottom half of the defensive depth chart for a handful of years.
Imo given the Blues franchise’s historic record; I think the chances of 50% retention for multiple years is very low - about 0. I don’t think they would pursue deals that required this structure. I’m wrong a lot and im pretty confident on this one so it’s a great moment to put me in my place.
