Point is underrated, in my eyes he is a fringe top 5C in the league.

The amount of people ranking a 37 year old Crosby ahead of him heading into this season was a bit of a head scratcher.

Crosby is still elite especially his season last year, I'm not sure Point is scoring 90+ points in his shoes

It should be noted that he also excels in that role whenever he's asked to do it. He's just really good at hockey.

His playoff game goes to another level. When he went down in the cup final against the avs, the Lightning were truly without their most clutch player there. If he was in Lightning could have won 3 in a row. He was that important to the team and that should alone make his name bigger for the league because he was really important for the back2backs. Such a clutch player when things matter most. He really should get more love.

He plays a much more reckless, attacking style in the playoffs. It definitely leads to a higher risk of injury. If I'm not mistaken, he wound up injured in both cup runs, and quite often before and since.

That said, come playoff time, he's usually the most dangerous guy on the ice. Not always. But he's done it enough that it's pretty much expected.

Long season, sample size yadda yadda. 18 goals in 21 games is pretty good. Higher than his normal shooting percentage, but his regular shooting percentage is rather high already.

But this is a crazy stat line. Scored 50 goals quietly a couple years back, and damn near it last season. I feel like this guy is known to be great when he’s actually brought up.

But he just doesn’t get brought up in conversation as frequently as similarly or less talented guys, so here’s some love. Having himself a season.

And some ranger fans thought people were nuts to trade the 2nd overall pick for Point. Turned out those beans for Kakko was not magic after all.

Whenever the Leafs played the Lightning in the playoffs he along with Kucherov were the players I feared most. Both have this uncanny knack of turning a game's momentum on a dime. It's almost unfair to point to a sudden death goal as a momentum swinger, but I still dread the OT goal he put past Campbell. And he plays the game the right way.

When Kuch is firing on all cylinders, Point gets a ton of points. When Kuch is not there, Point is a little under a ppg player. While a much, much better player than Hyman, both players get a significant point boost from the superstar they play with.

I would agree with this. Kucherov is basically the same player as in the regular season (lethal offensively). Point turns into an animal, and which one is better gets kind of subjective sometimes.

Point can also be used in a shutdown role, and Cooper seems to do that when he's desperate.

Without Kucherov, Point wouldn't be an offensive star in the NHL. He'd still be a good player, but he's lacking in offensive creativity to be a star independently. Kucherov, on the other hand, can score playing with anybody.

Agreed to an extent, but you might be underselling Point a tad. There are under-the-radar things he does as well, or better, than anyone in the league. For instance, I'm not sure if anybody been better at zone entries over the last 5 years. And he's one of the best I've seen at board battles (often just because he gets there first). This generally leads to offense.

But yeah, I do agree that anyone who plays with kucherov is going to have their numbers inflated. We saw it a lot with Stamkos.

In Point's case, I think his goal scoring would go down without Kucherov, but his assist numbers might actually go up. Net points would be negative, certainly, but I think 80 would still be pretty realistic, with decent (but not elite) wingers.
