Long season, sample size yadda yadda. 18 goals in 21 games is pretty good. Higher than his normal shooting percentage, but his regular shooting percentage is rather high already.

But this is a crazy stat line. Scored 50 goals quietly a couple years back, and damn near it last season. I feel like this guy is known to be great when he’s actually brought up.

But he just doesn’t get brought up in conversation as frequently as similarly or less talented guys, so here’s some love. Having himself a season.

This irritates me…

Because I was comparing Connor McMichael to the version of Brayden Point I knew. And at that “point” he was attainable and my guy is actually doing really well…

But now he’s got to go and get better…

He’s a lock for a best on best Team Canada which is pretty much the biggest compliment there is.

I don’t think anyone is sleeping on Brayden Point.

Historically he’s been the 3rd or 4th best player on his team but it’s not his fault his roster is stacked with future HHoFers.

Point will definitely not finish with a shooting percentage higher than 37% if he plays close to 82 games this season.
Sure, but there are couple of players who currently have more games than Point and have higher shooting percentage. So it is possible for a short period.

If Bolts PP will continue clicking Point's shooting percentage may even go up, he often shoots in situations when it is harder to miss than to score a goal.
I will bet you any amount of money that Point finishes the season below 30% sh%
He can pull off 20 though.

Really not a volume shooter at all.
yeah 20 is doable. But that cuts his scoring pace down from a 70 goal pace to a ~40 goal pace.

Yeah, I think 50 goals is doable. He's a strange goal scorer. Skillset of a playmaker, but very selective with shots. Yet gets a lot of high danger chances, not just from Kucherov. Very unique for a goal scorer because his shot is probably average, but always so well placed and timed.

He's had a bit of a weird career trajectory.

A lot of the younger crop of stars had breakout seasons in 2018-2019 for whatever reason. Marner, Barkov, Rantanen, Huberdeau, Point. All of them breaking 90+ points for the first time, and allof them continued on from there stringing consecutive ppg+ seasons, and more....except for Point.

Point went from 92 points in 2019 to....3 straight sub-ppg seasons. Which were quite disappointing.

Of course - those 3 years didn't hurt his reputation, it did the opposite, because although his regular season offensive contributions were way down, he had amazing playoffs, 2 straight smythe worthy runs in 20 & 21. So as you say - reputation-wise, everyone agrees that he's great generally, because he is.

And then - after 3 straight sub-ppg season, he's now 2 years in a row topped 90 points again, and seems well on his way to do so again this year. I'd be shocked to see him score 113 points, but anywhere from ~90-105 seems plausible, as is another 50 goal season.

Great player, with a very strong reputation, but a bit of a weird career trajectory. And I do think Kucherov helps tremendously.

His playoff game goes to another level. When he went down in the cup final against the avs, the Lightning were truly without their most clutch player there. If he was in Lightning could have won 3 in a row. He was that important to the team and that should alone make his name bigger for the league because he was really important for the back2backs. Such a clutch player when things matter most. He really should get more love.

Looking at his analytics, his lower ppg seasons came with elite defensive impact. His offensive bounceback came with dropping defensive analytics

I think a lot of it was usage and what they asked of him. I remember this guy in the playoffs, he can make skill plays but will also battle along the boards and in front of the net readily. I vividly remember him being all over the ice in those cup runs. The Bolts could have won the cup (not saying WOULD) if Point were healthy in 2022.

Somehow I doubt he's going to keep up that 37% shooting percentage.
Oh for sure, but already seeing his recent 50 and 46 goal back to back seasons, I could see him landing a bit above 50, unless he gets seriously cold to the degree that he’s hot right now. He might be seeing the puck a bit more with Stamkos gone.
