Let me be clear that Tanev is an extremely valuable piece and would have value close to what Saad would have BUT not to Columbus. We have 5 D that can play top 3 minutes and tons of great D prospects close to being ready. Saad is also one of the only untouchable F we have I'd say Wennberg currently is the other.

Just to be clear not an issue of value Tanev is a top pairing D. Patches on MTL would be a better option I think. Value is there for them.

The Jackets are also having a better year and have played a ridiculously difficult schedule thus far to start. Currently have 23 points, in the wildcard position, a couple games in hand (yes, i know it is early)

Thus, I don't see the Jackets trading Brandon Saad, who has 14 points in 17 games, playing on our top line for a D-man prospect who won't help this year or maybe even next year. I'll pass on Juolevi or Tanev. If Jacket's management really disliked Brandon Saad he would be seeing some healthy scratches/demoted to the 4th line/sit the 3rd period or overtime, ala Ryan Johansen

What would the CBJ's want in return for Saad? Tanev? Tanev+Baerstchi?

What problem does this solve for the Blue Jackets? Not Rhetorical.....please answer.

I'll use different words to say something similar to the previous posters. I do not see how this trade solves any problems with the Blue Jackets.

I've been watching a number of the trade proposals that begin with Vancouver. It seems like the fan base is trying to stave off the inevitable. My suggestion is to just embrace the tank and rebuild. What you are suggesting now should have actually begun about two years ago, then a successful "Retool on the fly" was possible. Now its too late.

Embrace the tank.

Do you not know that their "retool"comes from the top...the owner? Their fanbase really has no say in this matter. Sucks for them.

The only way to show their displeasure is to stop buying tix/merchandise. $$$ talks. Gotta hit ownership where it hurts.

We'd basically want another Brandon Saad. :) Tanev's awesome, but we've got lots of quality blueliners already and we're likely to lose one to the expansion draft as is. Trading Saad just doesn't make much sense.

Vancouver should not be trading futures for existing players, it would be the other way round.

I wouldn't do this as a Columbus fan, but Saad is a current and a future player. Teams who are rebuilding should be trying to get all the draft picks and good young players they can. Saad is both good and young. He would be a great get for a rebuilding team. Just like he was a great get for Columbus.

Unfortunately, they would assume that this means that they were right that Canucks fans won't embrace a rebuild and they need to chase the playoffs even more.

Thanks for the advice. Wish we could've come to that conclusion on our own
