When is this guy gonna drop the gloves?

The guy was a bonafide heavyweight when he fought his rookie year. He fought George Parros to a draw and beat down Ryan Reaves of St Louis.

I hope he's up when we play in Buffalo next week (although I'd bet they dress Scott to give Kaleta some cover).

If you look at his PIM numbers he really does not fight very much.
He might be a tough guy when he drops them, but he is not your typical enforcer who engages in these staged fights.

I like Mash because he can bring it and play hockey too but I wouldn't send Mash just to fight. Haley yes

Call up both and send Stu down for "conditioning stint" he needs it.
They are both better than Stu on the 4th line.

Which is exactly what this team needs IMO. It's why I like Haley as well. More of a hockey player who can fight.

Hes already proven he cant play the game at the NHL level, so I guess dropping the gloves is his only remaining refuge.

He wasn't terrible. He just looked a bit timid towards the end of his stay. I thought he actually looked decent as a 4th line winger.

He needs to try to make more of an impact in terms of hitting but I think he was afraid to take himself out of position.

This.

His last game here, he made two terrible plays in his own zone which led to goals against.

If he's not gonna bring anything at all, at least get the puck out of your zone and hustle. He didn't.

Mash was the epitome of "meh" during his coffee date with us. For such a big friggin' guy, I barely noticed him.

He was invisible for a few games, and then absolutely terrible in his last game here.

Afraid to take himself out of position? I guess he was also afraid to get the puck out of his zone.

C'mon, invisible? He was playing what, 5 minutes a night? How visible do you want him to be?

He made a couple of bad plays in his final game. The games before that he was creating chances in the offensive zone by protecting the puck down low and cycling well.

I am not going to call him amazing but I am not going to call him crap either. He just needs to be more assertive. Same with Kreider.

he seems like he was scared to get benched at least i hope that what it was. he was alright when he was with the Sharks. i just hope he isnt a bigger version of Newbury :help:

how is Newbury so good in the AHL, but when he gets caled up to the NHL he looks like he belongs in the ECHL

Would like to see him forecheck, hit, engage himself in the play.

He was a warm body for this team while it suffered through injuries. That was it. Dane Byers 2.0.

Forgive me for wanting a player to make a positive impact on the game. If you dont want to call him awesome or crap, at least admit he was much, much closer to crap during his time here.

Stu Bickel can do what he did.

As for the Kreider comparison, I give Kreider the benefit of the doubt because hes supposed to be our top prospect and was penciled in as an offensive contributor at the start of the season. Theres a lot running through his head in that situation. Mashinter has no such expectations to live up to. I dont think its too far-fetched to say you'll never see Mashinter in a Rangers jersey again.

I agree. He looked like a depth forward for now.

Not comparing him to Kreider. Just saying they looked exactly the same. Unwilling to totally engage physically. Mashinter has only been in the Rangers organization for a couple of months. I think the organization is higher on him than you are. Just a feeling I get.

I really like Mash as a prospect.

Im also really dissapointed that he didnt cease the opportunuty he was given. Young guy, rep as a scrapper. Get your shot, make sure they know what your made of. Especially when playing for a team that doesnt have that kind of a player.

UFA at seasons end. I think he is going to get more money elsewhere this being a contract year for him. He's putting up good numbers. He's got good size.

I think he re-signs. I am not sure the Rangers are all that high on Asham at this point. Haley/Mashinter should have a real shot at the 4th line next year.

I think Halpern will be gone which is unfortunate. Powe can play center.

You keep bringing up Haley - hasnt it been stated that hes a malcontent? Somethings fishy in that situation. He should've been up already considering how much **** the Rangers have thrown against the wall trying to fill the bottom 6 so far.

He didn't look good to start the season down there and he was fighting everyone because the Whale had no one. It was rumored he was upset. He has been playing MUCH better for the past month or so with Thomas. I am surprised he has not been called up either but Torts love for Bickel is part of it.

I think the only thing Halpern brings to the table is experience and FO%. He's pretty much invisible in every other aspect.

I'd really like to see JT center the 3rd line. Everyone loves him at wing but I think he's a natural center and better there.

If he's afraid to hit at the NHL level that means he's either not fast enough skating wise to handle the speed of the NHL or he doesn't think fast enough to make the hit. Either way it's a strong indication that he's not ready to play in the NHL at this time. Given the choice between Bickel and Mashinter on the 4th line playing 3-5 minutes a night to provide toughness, I'd take Bickel. Mashinter didn't show enough for me to think he's capable of playing in the NHL.

The NHL is played at a faster speed than the AHL, not every player can keep up. There are plenty of players like Newbury--stars in the AHL, unable to play/think fast enough to stick in the NHL.

but there are players who dont have good stats and do well in the NHL. Dubinsky didnt have great stats in his one year in the AHL... heck Dubinsky's NHL stats and his one year of AHL stats are pretty similar.

Apples and oranges. Dubinsky was a young prospect, just starting his professional career; Mashinter is 24 years old and has been a professional since 2009. Newbury is 31 years old.
