Tre won my respect when he tried to trade Marner before the deadline. I hope he doesn't lose it by circling back to Marner with anything worth more than a 3rd liner's contract on July 1st.

That’s pretty much what he did with Styles, I’ll never understand the logic of “we don’t want this player, and no one else wants him either so let’s overpay him” it’s mind boggling……..

Many free agents and players on teams that are slowly being made available can improve the Leafs next season.

Some free agents : Bennett, Ekblad, Mangiapane, Granlund, Kane, Toews, Marchand, Perry, Ehlers, Boeser

Some players being rumored to be available: Marshessault (W- Nashville), Andersson (D-Calgary), Robertson (W-Dallas), Schenn (C-St.Louis), Kreider (W-NYR), Barbeshev (W-Vegas), Palat (W-NJ)

Tre and Chief finally have the ability to really make a statement by making it their team. There are obviously players like Kampf, Jarnkrok, Roberston, Marner, Reaves and Reilly that need to go. But any players that we can get out of that list above will definitely give the Leafs a better looking team then the one that lost to Florida.

Time will tell what happens, but if the way Tre rebuilt the D core and goaltending is any indication. We have to trust that they will do the rest the same. Remember all the players I listed above that have to go from the Leafs are not Tre or Chief guys. Time to put their stamp on their team.

I'm not convinced Tavares will be back. If we sign Bennett we just paid a king's ransom for Laughton. If not , Schenn could be a good choice. You can add Holmberg to that list. We need an upgrade everywhere possible. That means a number one Dman too.

Tavares comes back on a Tanev or Gourde like contract. Dollars spread out over extra years. Something like 4yrs and 18 million. He will retire a Leaf, does not want to leave. Is your prototypical 3rd line center and can spot up on the left wing if needed.

Re-signing Tavares does not interfere with the signing of Bennett if the Leafs choose to.

??? Is Cowan and Toews but we need another Gritty winger.

Kampf and Jarnkrok deals are basically buy-out proof too, though in both cases, once the signing bonuses are paid (!?!?!?!?!), the actual cash on those deals is very low, which should make them pretty easy to move.

I don't think it will make any difference at all.

The hurdle to trading either of those guys would not be the dollars owed, the hurdle would be the size of the cap hit, and that isn't effected at all after the Leafs pay the singing bonus.

It's bizarre that they are structuring deals in this manner for bottom size dime-a-dozen players. Seems like an idiotic choice to structure their deals this way.
