uhmm why already?

Maybe would have been good to first see if he still has what it takes in the tank for at least half a season?

I'll be one of the few, but I like this. It keeps him round for a bit as some of the kids develop. Hopefully he won't be on the top pairing past this season, and be more of a #4 for the 2 years of this contract.

So it's the same AAV he had on his previous 3-year deal.

Still seems awfully weird, and I don't like the new habit of ours of giving out extensions to players who still haven't played a single game for us.

It's not that surprising after what happened with Duchene, Landeskog, Holden, Berra and even Cliche/Guenin. Avs like to lock players up early.

I don't want to see Stuart kept over Hejda, so I have no idea what's going to happen now going forward.

Siemens is knocking on the doorstep, Bigras is 1-2 years out... there's always the potential for a trade, but I suspect with Holden anchoring the 3rd pairing, we're in for another long few years of a lean defensive core that is mostly relying on our guys to develop into what we need.

1st pairing this season, 2nd pairing next season, 3rd pairing the following season. Fine value. Pretty much follows Hejda's final years of his contract.

Beats having Orpik fall down the depth chart at 5.5 million.

Stuart will be better than Hejda this year, and Holden can play the right side (so can Bigras) so there is still plenty of room on the left side for Siemens/Bigras to grow into.

There will likely be one full time spot opening up next season for Siemens or Bigras, and another the following season. IMO that would be the prefect progression for those two.

That's hardly an excuse, but.. yeah, i guess...

Who knows, Stuart could be well worth that money. I just don't understand why they wouldn't wait to see him play first. I feel like there's more imporant things to worry about than signing Brad Stuart a year before his contract ends.

Imagine what Hejda would have got if he was a UFA at the end of this season. Probably a 2 year deal at 8 million. Stuart is going to get a lot of minutes with the best defenceman on the team. He's probably going to have some nice numbers. Avs are rolling the dice now and keeping him at his same number as opposed to giving him that extra 500,000 at the end of the year.

Maybe the security helps him focus and play better too. Didn't someone say he was having off ice issues in San Jose?

Oh my god McLeod got 3 years. That's just as bad, if not worse.

That's worse.

I don't think he'll be good enough for the 4th line anymore.

I dare to think what his AAV is.
If it's less than 1.2 it's at least manageable. But I think it's closer to 2.

1.9AAV would be my guess.
