Brad Richards? | HFBoards - NHL Message Board and Forum for National Hockey League

Brad Richards?

He is not a guy who will be able to shift to the wing, and he is not really a fit within the current plans of the Sens.

He will get interest, no doubt, but not a good fit in Ottawa, at least presuming Spezza is going to be at full health in the Fall.

Hell probably get a contract in Toronto or somewhere that's desperate for a center.

I don't know, if he's UFA, I still think he's tempting. Veteran who can still take faceoffs as a backup on the wing. Just a thought.

Plus wouldn't cost us a anything in terms of assets.

No thanks... He wont play in his natural position and there is no need for him as a PP qb with Karlsson and Spezza on this team... He is also slow and not a great skater.... No thanks

Nooooooooooooooo!!

Sweet jebus, no!

Been watching the Rangers closely all season, and he has been brutal. I don't know how he managed to get any points this year. Richards can't make a pass to save his life and give the puck away like crazy (think of Spezza at his worst year of behind the back pass giveaways, and multiply that by ten), he is slower than a timbits player, and lost all of his hockey sense and IQ. He was even dragging down the offensive and playmaking of the freaking fourth line in NY, for chi's sake! He single handedly killed at least one hundred offensive rushes and good scoring chances by himself over the course of the year- no exaggeration....he would make 3-4 boneheaded offensive killer mistakes every damned period he was on the ice! He couldn't even shoot the puck on net standing still at the blueline on the powerplay. He was god-awful!

I wouldn't have him on the team for league minimum.

How do guys suddenly lose it like that? Richards reminds me of Wade Redden - one day, the guy is a top shelf player in the league, and seemingly the next morning, he can't contribute at all. You would understand if that happens to a guy in his mid to late 30s, but that's not the case here. I will freely admit that I haven't seen a lot of him this year, but I was at the Ranger game in March at SBP, and he was awful.

Speaking of overpriced Rangers, we should all be happy that we didn't land Rick Nash. Dude absolutely disappeared in the playoffs, a time of year when a skilled, big bodied guy like that should dominate. Sometimes the best trades are the ones you DON'T make.

From what I've seen/heard, Richards came back too early from a concussion while he was with Dallas. Seems to make sense as his decision making skills just aren't there/are too slow....or something isn't right with his noggin. But he has been trending down steadily for 3 years now...he just landed with an ugly thud this year.

Not surprised by Nash. He can be dominant for games, but he's always been streaky. He's a guy that always seems like he should be able to do so much more...great set of tools but a leaky toolbox.

So one bad season and the guy is finished, right?

Hell yeah we should make an offer. Cup winner, clutch player, lefthanded center. Turris could move to the wing where he could thrive with a center like Spezza.

Do you guys realize if Richards was on our team he would of been 1st in points for us? Even tho he had one bad season hes still only 33.

If its for the right price and term I say why not, could be the best guy avail since this UFA year sucks.

It would give us a respectful #2 PP as well, which we didnt have at all this season.

Just look at Getzlaf, he had a bad season 2 years ago and a lot of people took him off the Olympic team and said he was getting too old then he has a bounce back season and hes great again. I could see the same thing with Richards. Richards isnt done, through his who career he has been a top line player.

He also plays the point on a PP.

Michalek - Spezza - Alfredsson
Richards - Karlsson

**** no. you underestimate the depth of this organization if you think brad richards would make us a better team.

IMO it depends on how much he costs and what type of term he is looking for. The other factor is faith, specifically whether people believe the last season is the rule or the exception.

I would definitely be on board with him signing for 3 years at about 4 per. I doubt that would land him, but that type of price tag makes the gamble worthwhile. He was a great player and maybe he still be great for whatever team picks him up if he is bought out.

Depends on how much he can be signed for. The money Kovalev got paid when he came here? That would be too much. WAY too much.
