Did anyone watch the Bruins-Red Wings game on NYE? If you are an ESPN+ subscriber, go back and watch that game. There was a lot of choppiness in that game. This one sequence with Brad Marchand was interesting. Marchand wanted to hit Jeff Petry and somehow he totally missed. Marchand went flying into the boards. The Detroit fans loved it. The old Marchand would have taken Petry out with some cheap shot. What's going on with Marchand?

"The old Marchand would have taken Petry out with some cheap shot."

Such a tired narrative. Believe it or not Marchand did not skate every shift executing suspendable acts regardless of what some suggest.

Marchand the player is having a terrific season on a talent depleted roster.
Maybe not EVERY shift..

He has declined somewhat over his prime, as one does at age 35, but he's having a great season.

Going off of this one random ass exchange that really has little to do with hockey talent is strange.

So basically you’re saying Marchand isn’t very good because he missed a check?

He’s on pace for 77pts (higher than last season) while playing with some combo of Charlie Coyle, Jake Debrusk, Danton Heinen and Matt Poitras most of the time.

13 goals, 33 points in 35 games. Captain and 2nd leading scorer on his team.

Brad Marchand still nose what he's doing.

I dislike Marchand, but ya, dude is doing just fine. Weird play, not sure if Petry did a subtle fake there or if Brad just went real dumb, but it’s not indicative of his overall play, unfortunately.

Where the op sees a missed body check I see a dive.
I see a guy deciding to pull out of a somewhat late hit against a bigger guy who saw him coming anyway ... then had to pick up his right leg last moment to not go shin on shin

Thats what we call a "good business decision" .. as players get older they start making more and more of these
