Not surprising. Biega has looked better than Bowey, this year. Which isn't saying much because Biega hasn't looked great, either. Guessing this means that one of Daley or DeKeyser is imminent, as well.

Has he been that bad? I thought he could be a serviceable #5

He has been that bad. I liked taking the shot as I liked him a lot in his draft year. Sadly he is an all tools without the box guy. He hasn't been good enough and I agree with waiving him. He has been outplayed by McIlrath for the bottom pairing 6th/7th dman role.

What's the reason? Why does he need to be on waivers? He has no trade value at all???

Either Yzerman wants to keep him but believes he can get away with sending him down and nobody claiming him, or he has zero trade value. I feel like the perception of him is that he not going to get much better, if this is the case, players like that dont generally have much trade value.

If he didnt have a half dozen horrid and blatant give aways in his own end on a game by game basis, he wouldnt b so bad. Problem is he does have half a dozen horrid and blatant give aways in his own end on a game by game basis... So... Ya.. he's bad.

I'd imagine he doesn't, he's not very good and was basically a throw in with the Jensen trade.
He had some flashes last year playing with Kronwall but he just seems in over his head a lot in his own end and defending the transition he's prone to bad reads. I had a little hope that he could figure it out coming in but this waiving is deserved, as TZE said Mac has just been way more steady, even if he doesn't bring the same tools.

Bowey served as a healthy scratch in Detroit's previous three games, so the decision to move him down to the minors shouldn't come as a shock. The news could also be an indication that Trevor Daley (undisclosed) or Danny DeKeyser (undisclosed) will be ready to play against the Jets on Tuesday. Assuming Bowey clears, he will be reassigned to AHL Grand Rapids but figures to remain atop the list of potential call-ups.

What else did we get for Jensen besides Bowey? I remember it was a pick but I forgot what year and round?

I try not to pile on players too much (minus Nielsen) especially youngish players, but Bowey has been brutal.

Good skating, bad everything else. I would rather Hicketts or Lashoff be in the lineup over Bowey, and I don't think either one of them are NHL caliber defensemen.

Not surprising, he's shown some skill offensively but he can't make a clean zone exit to save his life.
