Proposal: Boston and Vancouver

Coach Parker

Stanley Cup Champion

Vancouver, B.C.
To Boston:

C Elias Pettersson ( 26 Years old, 7 Years at 11.6) (15G, 30A, 45 Points in 2024-2025, 89 Points in 2023-2024)

To Vancouer:

C Pavel Zacha (28 years old, 2 Years at 4.75) (14G, 33A 47 Points in 2024-2025, 57 Points in 2023-2024)
OR
C Casey Mittelstadt (26 Years Old, 2 Years at 5.75) (15G, 25A, 40 Points in 2024-2025, 57 points in 2023-2024)

2025 7th Overall
2026 Toronto 1st

Is this enough value for the Canucks to move on from Pettersson before his NTC kicks in and they draft the prospect they want to replace him while Mittelstadt OR Zacha replace his production?

Boston obviously paying for previous production and hopes that Pettersson would return to form and begin earning that contract.

Vancouver fans will probably say this is not enough for someone who scored 100 points two years ago and is still only 26.
Bruins fans will say this is too much for a guy who makes $11.6M and scored 45 points last season.
And thus is the predicament of trading EP40. Maybe you'll find a GM desperate enough to pay Vancouver's asking price but they would be taking a huge risk that could cost them their job if it doesn't work out (or make them a hero if it does). The potential outcomes are all over the map which leads me to believe GMs would shy away from selling the farm for him.

It's a respectable offer, but I don't see Vancouver giving up on him

I feel you have to go all in with Hughes on the backend. Not like they have Miller and Horvat anymore.
Definitely a fair offer but only if for some reason Hughes gets traded and a rebuild happens we keep Pettersson. I am predicting a much better year now that he knows he needs to train better

Respectable offer for a chance to get 100 point selke type center.
But huge gamble for boston if he stays where he is and is just a #2 average C.

Bruins management probably go to Lindholm and Zadorov and ask why they left Vancouver before considering this. Worth noting Miller was trying very hard to get Lindholm to stay
“The playoffs in Vancouver were crazy in terms of atmosphere. I remember that before, the atmosphere during the Cup in San Jose, Nashville, Vegas, Edmonton, Calgary seemed really cool to me. But what happened in Vancouver was on another level,” said Zadorov on the fans in Vancouver. “In terms of energy, in terms of volume, in terms of how the city lived hockey. During the playoffs, you try to eat at home, but, when you go out for dinner, you don’t have a single chance to pay for it yourself. Either the restaurant owners will come over right away, or someone at the next table will pay for you. The city lived for hockey, and I’ve never seen anything like it.”
Those were probably the coolest six months of my career. It's a blast to play hockey there. The fans are awesome, the city is cool, the team is cool too. The team, the coaching staff - everything was super. Head coach [Rich] Tocchet, [Daniel and Henrik] Sedins, [Adam] Foote, [Sergei] Gonchar - wherever you look, there’s a Hall of Famer,” said Zadorov regarding his admiration for the Canucks organization. “You can learn a lot from everyone. When Sergei Gonchar came in, he worked a lot with all the defensemen individually. I think those six months were a big boost for my career, I changed a lot as a player.”

Not bad value. Unfortunately the Canucks basically need Pettersson to recover so we’ll most likely wait and hope for that.
That's what many of my Canucks fans say, then the other 50% hate him and wanted to keep Miller. It's such a fascinating story that screams to me psychological and a guy that wants out.

Yeah, I guess if you think Hughes will sign and re-up you keep Pettersson and hope he starts putting in an effort. If he doesn't post-July 1st and the team moves Hughes, this is a disaster.

Trust me, I only post on this main board this type of trade when half of the Bruins fanbase hates it and half like it, lol.

If he remains how he has been for 18 months and they have 7 more years, it would be worse than Erat for Forsberg watching McQueen or Frondell run the Canucks top line during that same period of time. The risk brings about the best conversations between fans.

No because Vancouver would then be looking for a #1 center with none to be found. There’s a reason you continue to discuss Pettersson to Boston, there’s not a lot of potential #1 centers available and the Canucks’ best chance of having one is in hoping Pettersson rebounds.
Agreed, but it's starting to form a narrative that this guy isn't going to do it in Vancouver and maybe doesn't want to either.

It really looks psychological now at this point after the Canucks have moved out their best forward and now head coach to keep him happy.

Miller caused his own demise and Tocchet chose to leave on his own accord, Vancouver tried to keep him. You’re creating false narratives here.

That's a lot of information that had no relation to my point

No the narrative given out this weekend was that Tocchett wanted Pettersson traded and it was nixed by ownership. Not me on that one.

Now, if that story is true, the coach wanted a player traded, the GM agreed and made a deal with Carolina and then the owner said no. As soon as the option is in front of him, the coach then leaves.

Essentially the owner choosing the player over the coach and overriding the coach and GM. So the coach leaves.

Which trade are you suggesting was nixed by ownership? The one prior to him signing his extension or the one post extension where Carolina decided to go with Rantanen instead?

The one prior to him signing the extension.

Second post. This was leaked around this weekend after Tocchett decided to leave the team. Figured it had it's own thread.

I was getting it and other versions of it from STH's that had it circulating around their social groups.

In the same sense, I can’t imagine a team giving up nearly that amount for a highly paid 45pt player.

Vancouvers best bet is player another season with him and re-evaluate keeping/tendering offers
