Funny how Sammy gets a 2 game suspension. Avs player that was hit returns to the game. Did Sammy deserve some punishment? Sure.

Bort is a tall guy, gets hit with a high hit against the glass, and is now out. No call, no league punishment.

Very odd standard.

I really don’t think the hit on Bortuzzo was that bad and I’m fine with no supplemental discipline. Nichushkin gets him shoulder to shoulder. Bortuzzo’s head happens to bounce off the glass, but there’s pretty clearly no intent there. Just an unfortunate play.

Luckily we have some depth with Mikkola and Walman, who was just added to the taxi squad. I’m hoping Mikkola gets some game action soon.

Same here. I didn't think blais hit was that bad either though. Both seemed to be accidental but obviously the league doesn't think so.

I had no issue with Blais suspension, but is billshut that hit on Borts didn’t warrant one too.

Yeah Nichushkin should have been punished on that hit.

Clear hit to the head that has now led to injury of a player. It was a dumb hit and should be punishable.

The NHL has been all over the place.

Nothing at all for Dowd.
10k fine for the elbow by McCann.
Nothing here.

Look I had no issue with 1 game suspension for sure with Blais (thought 2 was a little harsh), BUT if the NHL was serious, the other two at least were suspendable for sure. This one I thought might get a fine but that was about it.

Should've been a longer suspension than Blais got. Bortz wasn't bent over, and Nichushkin saw nothing but numbers the entire time.

I think the NHL actually got it right on this one...the Nichushkin hit was a nothing play with a shitty result and the Blais hit he got nothing but head and deserved a suspension.

:dunno:

I agree with you on the Dowd hit, that one was the worst of them all IMO.

But I think a lot of Blues fans are wearing the homer goggles about Blais. This guy has had multiple borderline hits over the past 2 years that escaped supplemental discipline. Surely the DoPS has noticed this and it was only a matter of time they hit him with a suspension to try to calm him down. And what better time to do it than the literal first game of the season? It’s really not surprising. They’re noticing that he’s not changing and continues to walk the line. If Bozak throws that hit instead of Blais, he might not have been suspended.

Yeah I have no clue what kind of precedent the DoPS wants to set. I think the Blais hit was punishable, so no problems there. But another clear hit to head is somehow okay because... reasons?

Maybe, one game was warranted, but NOT 2.

It’s only odd in the real world. Never being able to understand why one hit is a suspension vs a penalty vs no penalty is the NHL way

They clearly factor in the caliber of the player who got hit and delivered the hit. Toews is Colorado’s big offseason pickup playing his first game, while Blais is a 3/4 liner. Bortz is also a 6/7 dman.

That of course should make ZERO difference in making a decision.

I'm not sure, but didnt Blais had history of getting fined or even ban for bad hit?
