He's extremely versatile. Can go from playing 3C to 1LW, can create space and finish plays on a top line and not look out of place at all. If he settles in and stays at center he'll be a very good 3C but could be a solid 2C. He's good in the dot. It's hard to project points since we don't know for sure where he'll be playing but hovering around 45-55 points with the ability to PK, seems fair.

Mike Richards (when he was good) gets used as a comparable a lot. Backes-lite could work too. Very physical game that just wears the other team down while being a solid two-way player.

I think his upside is a #2C, somewhere in the 45-60 pt range. However seeing how we just signed Dubinsky to a 6yr deal I doubt he'll see that role anytime soon, and Wennberg has the potential to lock up the #3C spot next season. I think he'll settle in as either a #1 or #2 winger. Something around 50 pts. He did tie Rick Nashs rookie scoring record so theres that.

Tough season for Boone due to injury, finished strong and we are a different team with him on the ice. I don't like trying to measure upside, but I expect him to have a major impact on the ice next season.

He does a lot of the little things right and will put up points if he is on a line with talented offensive players. He is a space creator and does the dirty work for his linemates however he has limited offensive potential, not really a creator with the puck and below average shooting. I honestly believe he is best suited to a defensive role wearing down the opposing teams best player, his best attributes (hitting, forecheck, puck retrieval) make him an ideal third line shutdown forward that can chip in on offense. It will be interesting to see what happens with him as more skilled players enter the roster. Wennberg has locked up a center spot and Rychel is a natural LW so both could pass Jenner on the depth chart in the near future.

IMO, if it wasn't for the magical leader qualities he is rumored to have I think Jenner would be at the top if our most likely to be traded list.

Serious Post ? Boone is 21... had 16 goals and 13 assists his rookie year. Last season only played 31 games, had 9 & 8. I hardly doubt he would be a trade canidate, considering that production is getting paid 792,500. Also, I cant fathom that we know his potential at this point . As I pointed out in another thread, i Boones first season he had as many points as Ryjo did his first 2 combined, and more goals in one season, then ryjos first 2 combined. Plus yes, he is a great leader, and a beast on the boards.

First, I was unclear about the trade candidate comment. I meant that he would be one of our more valuable pieces in our effort to trade for D help this off season. As to his production much of that is IMO the product of playing with good creators in Johansen and Dubi. Jenner fills a valuable role, but his production is generally due to his linemates creating chances more than his own offensive skill.

Also comparing his stats vs Johansen's considering the different talent and roles they played on the team during their first year is disingenuous at best.

I could imagine Wennberg and Rychel outscoring Jenner, but it'd be hard to imagine them being better overall players. Jenner is a coach's dream. Don't expect a lot of guys to pass him on the depth chart. Maybe Dano.

Have to see how everybody progresses, but I wouldn't mind a top line of Milano-Johansen-Dano in 3-4 years.

I've seen so many posts questioning his leadership capabilities. I don't get it - why would the entire organization just "rumor" that a 21 year old is a great leader. Nobody in the org says anything about Joey or Wennberg being captain material. This club is full of straight-shooters; to question something that they all see in the locker room when none of us are in there is just absurd to me.

I love Jenner, but I'm far from his biggest fan, nor his harshest critic. This, however, is a very clear attribute of his. Ever since he's been on the NHL's radar he's been labeled as a future captain. Granted, I don't think he should be captain over Foligno or Dubi, but it's hilarious to me that these qualities of his are even in question.

Maybe because its uncharastic for a young player to come in and have these qualties ? But I agree with your statement. Here are a few article I dug up.

http://bluejacketsxtra.dispatch.com...9/21/jenner-brings-a-farm-boy-work-ethic.html

Jenner made a splash last season as an NHL rookie, scoring 16 goals and 13 assists for 29 points, with a plus-6 rating, arguably the best rookie season in Columbus since Rick Nash’s in 2002.
But it was Jenner’s approach to the game — quiet, direct, relentless — that won the trust of coaches, the admiration of his teammates and the grudging attention of the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.
In other words, the boy may have left the farm, but the farm has not left the boy.
“The way that he works … it’s like he doesn’t know any other way,” Blue Jackets center Mark Letestu said. “He’s got that farm-boy approach to it, still.”
The Blue Jackets have short-term and long-term views of what to expect from Jenner — and both leave them giddy.
Many within the organization see Jenner as a future captain of the Blue Jackets. At this rate — the club is entering its third season without a “C” — he might be the next captain.
It seems almost inevitable.

Blue Jackets players say Jenner already is a leader, though not a vocal one. Jack Johnson, Brandon Dubinsky, James Wisniewski … those are the prominent voices in the dressing room during games.
“I don’t know that he’ll ever be a rah-rah guy,” Letestu said. “But guys gravitate to his style of play. Guys get behind that.

And Story #2, notice who reaches out to Rychel...

http://bluejacketsxtra.dispatch.com/content/stories/2014/12/04/Blue-Jackets-1204.html

“When I got drafted, Boone was one of the first guys who texted me to say welcome to the organization,” Rychel said. “He has shown me around the city and really done a lot for me since my first development camp.”

“I’d point out Boone Jenner to him; I’d say his name over and over as we pulled up to the rink,” said Rychel’s father, Warren, a former NHL player. “I’d say, ‘That kid right there — you have to try and match his intensity, his work ethic.’

Article #3

http://news.nationalpost.com/sports...utation-as-tough-power-forward-future-captain

The Columbus Blue Jackets winger, who teammates are already comparing to a young Mike Richards or Milan Lucic, is earning a reputation as a future power forward and captain. Give him five years, said head coach Todd Richards, and there won’t be “too many guys who are going to want to play against him.”

Even now, at 20, Jenner is an intimidating presence.

Boone’s the man. Seriously,” said Johansen. “He’s just a big, power forward that really knows how to use his size and speed and everything that comes along with that. Really, he’s one of those complete players. If he can keep improving, he’s going to be one of the better power forwards in the league.

“He’s got a lot of heart,” said Horton. “He works hard. His work ethic is better than everyone. He’s got skill and he’s got everything that comes with it. Things are just falling into place with him.”

^Very good digging. I think also Boone is less vocal in the media than Dubinsky or Johnson, so perhaps fans only identify with what they see and hear on their screens/speakers. I don't know if the team is ready for him as a captain at 21 or 22, but obviously many people think he'll be there eventually. If not this coming year, then probably whenever Dubinsky or Foligno pass the torch in 5 years.

Yeah thats the tough part at naming a young captain, we have vet options. When Landeskog got his captaincy they weren't really in the same position. Same as Crosby in Pitt but thats a case of best offensive player gets the C regardless.

I wanted to highlight this part in particular, Rychel has the abilities but if he gains that level of effort and we have those 2 on the left side... That would be beautiful. What a luxury for Rychel to not only have Hartnell around but a guy like Boone who is around his age and already a pro in every aspect and willing to do whatever he needs to

Why not on the same line? Those two connected beautifully on a pair of goals in just a few games together. ;)

That works to so its either 1 line of hell or 2 waves . Rychel-Dubi-Jenner to really get fore check and nastiness going. Heck Rychel-Jenner-Dano someday. Sure we lack top end skill but what we may have with size with skill is awesome

Our top end skill comes with Foligno-Johansen-Atkinson and Milano-Wennberg-Bjorkstrand after Rychel-Dubi-Jenner and Calvert-Letestu-Dano have beat the **** outta the other team

Im sure he can, hes a natural center. He was just forced to the wing because of center depth and lack of wings on the team.
