What would it take to get him ?

With respect to Blue Jackets fans who have to deal with this daily, I made this a “value of” thread instead of a proposal so they can pick and choose.

I want to have a general discussion with both sides and neutral fans of possible pieces, his cap is great and the Leafs would overpay to get him.

He would fix a lot of the Leafs problems and could play up and down the line up

Given that we need skilled veteran mentors, I do not. Unless you're proposing to do something totally batshit insane like "start with Tavares at 50% and add" (which would be highly inadvisable for the Leafs, to say the least).

The sorts of guys we need are guys Toronto is relying on right now to be competitive.

I don’t see the fit. The cost would be very high for an organization that is far from asset rich right now. Even if the Leafs went full Tampa, those assets would be more efficiently used on defense or in goal.

good player, but, unless he transitioned to DEFENSE, the Leafs dont 'need' him and have other much bigger priorities

Leafs dont want to be the team that "makes an offer the Jackets cant refuse".

another team with more pressing needs and better prospect pool could go after him.

He likely stays a CBJ for another 2 years at minimum

The Leafs dont need to add anyone here. The leafs need to find a way to break up the core 4. These guys are the problem (along with coach queef), and anyone who doesn't see this is blind. Marner needs to go. Yes, I know, NMC. The richest team in the nhl should be able to figure it out. f***in frustrating team to be a fan of man!
