Everyone wants a developmental coach and then when he benches a young player because he isn't playing well they don't connect the dots that thats what he is doing. If we want Lafreniere to succeed he cant be handed ice time when he's coasting around. I realize he isn't the only one but its not the older players they are trying to mould.
I agree with this in principle but at the same time, why the f*** is Laf coasting so much? Like how has it not been beaten into his head that high compete is the bare minimum expected from him. I mean, I don’t think Quinn is directly telling him to play such a reserved game but how is this coasting still a thing this deep into the season?

So Mika whiffing one timers is Quinn's fault? I just gave you examples how not a single coach has cracked the Kreider code but Quinn must be fired because he hasnt figured out Kreider or the other passengers on this team?

If you want to blame personnel and ice team, sure. A coach isnt going to give Kreider magic juice to not be streaky or wake Ziba from being a husk.
So you’re admitting that he can’t identify the problems these players have, and thus no ability to attempt to correct and fix their play. Thanks for proving my point for me.

Is this where we get into an argument about how the players that are succeeding under quinn were good players anyway and he never did anything to help them and how he ruined Lias andersson by playing Howden?

Guess you think its a coincidence 4 straight top 10 picks have hit pretty large setbacks under this coach

B's have been on every blue sweater like gnats to lights. Perfect response game by them. Listen, the other team tries too.

Just wish we had more composure, structure and some moxie when the other team plays well. We didn't establish any forecheck or cycle that whole period. No offensive zone possession. So, sending players to the net or anything for shots/rebounds/deflections isn't even an option.

Buchnevich has been horrible for a month

how many times does he come down the wing in a shooting position from the right side and just fire a puck into no mans land across the rink hoping what someone baseball bats it in? I’m amazed at it. There is no way in hell I’d give him a cent more to block a good nhl prospect. No way.

and again we had a shot at the playoffs with Mika and Panarin leading the way. Panarin while in the lineup has done his job but Mika has not even been off his game, he’s been consistently one of the worst players on the ice. No team would survive that. He’s responsible for where we are in the standings and why we’ll miss the playoffs. It’s on him

If I had to rate the forwards currently in the lineup on actual NHL caliber, rather than what they’ve done in limited time in this terrible season, it’s basically:

Zibanejad
Kreider
Buchnevich
Strome
Lafreniere
Howden
Lemieux
Blackwell
DiGiuseppe
Gauthier
Rooney
Brodzinski

When Strome, completely unproven rookie Lafreniere, Howden, Lemieux are your #4-7 forwards you’re absolutely atrocious and abysmal. It’s literally worse than what we ice in the preseason sometimes.

Ya, we're actually overreacting with this clown lineup playing.

I didn't watch the 2nd too closely (I value what's left of my sanity), but I don't recall a single bona fide scoring chance for the Rangers all game long.

Is that accurate?

I think it’s because if you didn’t go to college Quinn doesn’t understand how to communicate with a player.

A couple games ago I thought maybe Mika was coming on......now not so much. He's got to lead....especially when Artemi isn't around.

Pretty much they have nothing going. This isn't on the goalies--the nastier we get with this team the better our chances.

And you havent shown how a coach makes a streaky player consistent. Does he use a conjuring spell?

Can we play Lafreniere with someone who can retrieve the puck? Maybe with Blackwell? It's not working with Buch and Zibby. Plus Zibby couldn't put the puck in a soccer net right now.

So you're saying Kreider is in no way responsible for the way he plays? We may as well just dissolve the team because not all of the players are going to be firing on all cylinders every game and the coach won't be able to perfectly work with each player on every single deficiency until they are completely resolved.

That people don't understand Kreider is a streaky player this far into his career is mind boggling.

Without making excuses for him, because I agree, I would suggest that maybe it’s a lack of confidence. When you’re getting talked to about being too aggressive on the forecheck and getting caught in deep, and then you’re being told you’re being too safe and not putting any pressure on, and then you’re told you should have dumped that and not tried to make a play, and then you’re told that you’re dumping the puck too much... eventually you’re just coasting around because you’re afraid to commit to skating in ANY direction. If I go in hard on the forecheck I might get told I over committed. If I go hard on the back check I might be told I’m being to passive and not presenting a breakout option for us to get offense going. I don’t know wtf to do, so I just float around hoping for a loose puck.

And to be fair, that actually seems to be how our whole team plays, not just Laf.

Speaking of Artemi, why the f*** is he not playing again? Ugh.

By diagnosing their problem and attempted to fix it and then developing a coaching strategy that leads to fixing the problem and putting the player in the best position to succeed. Simple stuff. Try to keep up here.
