How could can this guy be? For those that have seen a lot of him, who does he compare to?

Well I don't know who he really compares too, but some of the Atlanta fans are really down on this kid this year. A lot of us, including myself, expected better from him this year. It was his first full season too, he is only 19, and has been bothered by a wrist injury for most of the year. The wrist injury I believe is why he leads the team in missed shots.

Some people have started throwing the word "bust" around but I just can't see that happening. He is a physical player that will only become bigger and stronger. He is around 18th I believe this year in hitting. I can easily see him becoming a great defensmen all around. In his first 17 games this year he had 8 goals. He seems to be more of a goal scoring offensive defensemen then a passer. There have been plenty of times this year where he has taken the puck from his own zone to the opponents. I don't really know who you can compare him too but I see him as being a 20 goal scorer and among the league leaders in hits down the road. I expect a much better year next season.

I never ever heard the word bogosian and bust side by side before. He had a booming start with 8 quick goals. Had an injury and yeah the rest of the season was a bit harder on him. But every post I read and report I see on this guy he is pegged as a futur All-Star defenceman.

From the times I saw him play, he has a very smooth skating stride, reaches full acceleration in no time and has a very decent first pass. Booming shot from the point. He has to work on being more efficient on the D side of the game but he has that mean streak you like from a d-man.

I think he plays a lot like and could very well become like Chris Chelios. Good thing Chris is there to show him the ropes... This guy within the next 3 years will become an allstar.

****, if you think he's a bust send him down Ottawa's way. Apparently he was a Sens fan growing up, too.

IIRC, the comparison used by NHL Central Scouting was Rob Blake?

Looked like an All-Star end of last season and the beggining of this season, then he injured his wrist and his play dropped off big style. You would expect the injury to effect his offensive play, which it did, but it was he defensive play which really lost it - out of position, miscommunication, going for big hits when he shouldn't. Luckily it's all stuff that you would expect from a rookie and no doubt he will pick it up.

No idea why the Thrashers continued to play him when he was injured, it clearly effected his play and we were sitting a healthy d-man most of the year. No one knew he was injured untill recently so we all thought he was just sucking up the joint.
Still got huge potential though, i think Chelios is a great example of what he is capable of, hopefully he got some good advice of him. He showed enough before he got injured to suggest he will be a great all round d-man. Definate All-Star potential.

he will be very good.

this year he has been really inconsistent i think we all noticed it more after he scored nine goals in the first 20 games and then 2 the rest of the season.

he has been playing hurt most of the year so that probably has something to do with it.

i think he will bounce back next year though

I'm a big Bogosian fan... but at 19, it's pointless to try and pin down what kind of player he is or whether he's living up to expectations. I'm not much of a fan of defensemen playing in the NHL at that age, and certainly not wholesale evaluations of said players at that age. Wait until he's 22 or 23, and the physical play and the season-long grind are less of an issue than they are today. Wait until he fills out.

I'd have probably given him extra time in juniors and then a year or two with the Wolves, myself.

Bogosian converted to D comparatively late and it shows sometimes. His reads are not always great. He needs some coaching or a mentor to iron out those rough edges.

Both seasons he has had red hot stretches where he looks dominant with the puck--late last season and early this season. Other times he looks like a young defenseman playing in the NHL.

He needs to improve his reads and play become more consistent, not unusual for a young D man.

I think his upside is good but not that good.

I gotta agree. Granted, I've only seen Bogosian in action a few times. But I've seen Doughty all season long for 2 years now.

If you're telling me Bogosian is going to be better than Doughty, you're taking about Bogo having the potential to be one of the top D-Men of ALL TIME, because Doughty DOES have that potential to be in the top 10 all-time.

Bogosian is no slouch. I was VERY impressed when I've seen him play. But I've been even more impressed by Doughty, and thats not just cause I'm a Kings fan.

Both should have very long and outstanding careers.

Bogo doughty Bogo doughty Bogo doughty.. Who gives a @?/! Already the thread isn't a comparison between the 2, and doesn't always hav to turn into one. Jesus christ

A mentor ... like ... Chelios? I can't think of too many better career defensemen still available to have on the team and help your kids.

Oh yeah i forgot to mention that. I think he has only been playing for about 5 years now. Not too shabby in my opinion.

What I was saying also about the whole bust thing was that there are some Thrashers fans that are really down on the kid because of the year he has had. I can somewhat understand but it really doesn't seem like his struggles affect him mentally. I think he will be just fine and will turn into a very good if not great defenseman.

Number one paring D whose hallmarks are he can score goals with his hard shot and uses his size effectively to be a physical presence.
