The odds of us winning the lottery following a playoff miss are almost certainly no better than 15 to 1. If we make the playoffs, I would absolutely bet on the Blues over the Avs with 15 to 1 odds. I'm very squarely in camp "this team isn't a legit contender." But it is not all that uncommon for teams as good or worse than the Blues to beat teams as good or better than the Avs in a 7 game series.

We've banked too many points to be in tank-mode. Even another big losing streak would put is in a spot where our odds to pick in the top 2 will be less than 10%. We would need to "pass" teams like LA, Columbus and Detroit, who are also playing terribly and are 3+ games back of us already.

Grubauer has COVID and Francouz just had season-ending surgery. Given the lingering affects of COVID, I think it is reasonable to say goaltending might be an issue for the Avs in 1 month. I don't like our chances of beating the Avs, but I like them better than our chances of winning the draft lottery. And given the scouting issues this year I don't see much value in picking 9-14 over 16-20. Give me a shot in the playoffs over that.
