Post-Game Talk: Blues 5 - Jets 1, Series tied at 2

Is that the Colorado Blue Print the Blues are using? Same zone entries same clog the front of the crease.

sucks to be losing like this when you know the team is capable of better - the last two years….

arghhhh 🥲……
I really don't think this was like the colorado series at all, nichushkin owned the front of the next and had like 30 goals

Must win on Wednesday. I hope we see a mentally resilient group that can get two wins in the next 3 games.

But Names not scoring ( 1 goal) on 34 + games now is also telling and a dire roster issue that has to be corrected before this team can contend. No legit SC contender has a 2C that hasn't scored in almost 1/2 a season.
Very well said, and as much as I like Names’s skating, and playmaking, if you can’t score you can’t win.

I’d like to see them run Barron as the 2nd line center, and see how he does.

Let's face it jets are not built for the playoffs.. they seem to lack a 3rd gear that most these other teams have.. st louis seems like they can elevate thier game when needed... jets are faltering.. they don't have any scoring prowess and thier goalie isn't helping the cause... ehlers is major piece in this line up he's one of the few guys that has game changing ability with the puck on his stick.... connor likes to dangle the puck around to much.. Morrissey seems to dissappear at times.. the first 2 games were a mirage could easily be 4 - 0 or 3 - 1 right now...

Exactly. I know people will blame defensive play and at times it's been bad, but for the most part we've been good enough defensively this series.

We need to score more and we need some saves.

Helle is sporting an .800 save percentage this series. It's hard to blast the rest of the team when you are getting that awful of goaltending. The fact that the series is tied with our goalie playing that badly is remarkable.

If Helle can get it together we take this series. If he can't we are fighting an uphill battle as this team was designed to win lower scoring games not 5/4 barn burners like the Oilers for instance.
People will blame defensive play because our defensive play has been as bad as it gets - even JoMo is struggling.
We can all take sides and blame who we want but there is no disputing our D collapse - the guys are not managing net front / middle and Helle can't see what is coming.
Now if the team is feeling like they are not getting the support from Helle, and their game is suffering because they feel deflated, they really need to take a look in the mirror.
This happened LY - same story almost to the word. We struggled with clearing the lanes and it was a series of floaters coming in from everywhere and Helle is left to deal with the screens and deflections. You can't hang him out to dry that way - regardless of how good he is.
The Blues know it and are executing to that weakness - guys like Demelo, Pionk and JoMo need to figure out how they are going to deal with a very aggressive and physical Blues team that are having their way with the middle ice. I'd suggest they take a look at how the Blues defend - they give you nothing down the middle - they figured it out.
I wish Helle could save us but I don't see it happening if he can't see what's coming.

this is the playoffs... there are going to be screens and breakdowns... helle has to actually fight thru that, he is suppose to be the best goalie in the world, he's given us 1 good start in 4 games, he needs to be better, he has been statistically worse then skinner, let that sink in...

You need to stop bleeding chances.

It’s a boring way to play but the 1-2-2 should have already been implemented.

Can’t keep doing the same things.

The Blues seem to be taking care of business net front.
I agree that Helle could be and needs to be better - but calling him out when our D are obviously not getting it done, is the same old story.
We expect him to make up for the shortfalls - and that might be asking too much when he can't see the puck.
Like I said - there will be different takes on this - this is just my opinion

he can't see the puck because he stays still and doesn't fight to see it... also plenty of plays where he just completely shrinks

like watch binnington, he is constantly moving looking thru traffic, it's almost like helle is soo afraid of getting beat out of position he just stays still

WTF was Schenn doing when his brother scored?
Two hits the whole game?

The last people in the world you can blame that goal on are the forwards

I've talked a lot about Stanley making iffy reads when he steps up without forward support. This could be the worst example I've seen from a Jets D man all season. No support, 4-2 turns unto a 4-1. Then Snerg blows a wheel... leaving no defensemen to, you know, defend. Connor is supposed to defend 4 guys by himself?

Murat displaying his beer league level of hockey understanding again

Oh well

now they have to win two at home since they cant win on the road.

Villardi and Ehlers out of the top really doesnt help also.
But you got to roll with what you haveX

im not as confident now as after game 2.
Wonder if that is now on our players mind.

This is what separate the greats in sports. When they can play through this.

Hopefully our fans give them that boost in game 5

Im a Jets fan

we suck together or
we are good together 😅

GO JETS GO

Like I said, there is more he can do - but our D are not making it easy on him.
You can't let teams set up shop in front of your goaltender / middle ice - I'm hoping to see an improvement there (along with Helle's movement).

I mean we were playing good, until the 2nd goal totally deflated the team, 3rd goal was a breakdown but he also played that horribly and we needed him to save that until we could get our legs back

Still processing this mess but helle going straight to the dressing room was a bad look. The way the puck was left in the cease on that one goal and he didn't move his stick was another bad look, but I am most concerned about what he said when Morrissey blocked him trying to get across the crease. Was he angry at the ref or Morrissey? Given that and the way his playoff record is expanding for the worse, I don't know what to think.

For some reason the defence have become tentative and a shell of themselves in Winnipeg as well. Morrissey looks completely off.

Yes they have taken a lot of hits, but I think this is more of a mental issue between the ears than some sort of massive physical Blues advantage.

I am also wondering why Stanley did not play.

When the jets have faced key moments in these past 2 games they have collapsed, not dug deeper. That's a mental issue. Does the issue follow them back to Winnipeg or not?

Can they reset?

I literally have no idea.

Its a bad feeling.
Stan didn't play because he's not good. Fleury was better, in a limited look. He's just faster and more skilled.

I believe top to bottom we have a superior roster.
These players will regroup and I believe make a series of it.
It’s a brand new series.
I believe we will overcome.
Go Jets Go
I agree with this, but getting blown out badly on the road, sure doesn’t boost the confidence.

Somehow I believe the Jets will pull this series out, but if we lose the next game, the series is likely over. You gotta be able to win on the road to go deep in the playoffs.

With healthy lineup maybe... but we need more speed and offensive skill out there... kupari has no business being in the press box

Is so weird but I'm not even mad right now. I think i was mentally prepared for the possibility of this happening again.

I'm just disappointed and feeling resigned to our fate.

I wish I had more faith like our good friend @kanadalainen, but something is just not right with this group mentally.

It's like when Buff left, he took the teams backbone with him.

I know this is more appropriate for after our playoffs are over, but I wonder out loud where do we even go with this group?

I love so many of the players on this team, but if they can't get it done, do we try to retool by moving some core players out? If so, who?

There’s one problem with that … the Jets D cannot keep his view clean. The Blues just stand in front of him and block his view and with one pass it would be an empty net goal for the shooter.
Simply tying up sticks and better positioning would alleviate most of those problems. Jets D don't seem capable of or want to clear out the front of the net

Losing Ehlers for nothing is gonna sting. A lot. And by the time our young guys are ready this core may have aged out. Unless you can convince a free agent to take a chance on Winnipeg I don't know what you do...

I think you have to get rid of guys like Appleton, for one. And I am starting to think Nino as well.

I think our chances of winning this series our 55% for and 45% against, which is very close either way.

If we had lost games 3 and 4 by just 1 or goals, and fought hard for the whole game, I’d increase our odds chances.

Right now, pretty much a toss up, with slight favour to the Jets with home ice advantage.

I should have been more specific. I haven’t been impressed with these two in the past two games. They are our best players and they need to play as such. 55 especially has the ability to put the team on his back and be a completely dominant player, but he hasn’t been. He’s been ‘fine’ but not what I know he’s capable of.
Scheifele was getting illegally attacked all day, and I thought Connor had a strong game.

I have tiers of grievances with the team right now:

Hellebuyck and Morrissey are at the top: Where are the Vezina/ Norris candidate pair at?

Samberg: He straight up sucked today.

Nino, Namestnikov, Lowry: FFS if you're not going to score you have to contribute somehow.

The list of players i think have been good/ acceptable are few:

55 and 81: When you're the only offensive threats it's super easy to target you. Despite that, Connor has 3 goals. Schiefele has not backed down at all and he should be commended for that.

Smurfetti: The kid is showing poise and no fear. A shame he's with 2 boat anchors.

Demelo and Pionk: despite getting run constantly, they've held steady. I'd like to see more offense from Neal but having Samberg playing the way he is makes it difficult.

Barron: why isn't he on the second line yet? What the f*** are we waiting for?

JAD and Gus: Really bringing the fight to the Blues. Showing some moxie.
