Post-Game Talk: Blues 5 - Jets 1, Series tied at 2

Still processing this mess but helle going straight to the dressing room was a bad look. The way the puck was left in the cease on that one goal and he didn't move his stick was another bad look, but I am most concerned about what he said when Morrissey blocked him trying to get across the crease. Was he angry at the ref or Morrissey? Given that and the way his playoff record is expanding for the worse, I don't know what to think.

For some reason the defence have become tentative and a shell of themselves in Winnipeg as well. Morrissey looks completely off.

Yes they have taken a lot of hits, but I think this is more of a mental issue between the ears than some sort of massive physical Blues advantage.

I am also wondering why Stanley did not play.

When the jets have faced key moments in these past 2 games they have collapsed, not dug deeper. That's a mental issue. Does the issue follow them back to Winnipeg or not?

Can they reset?

I literally have no idea.

Its a bad feeling.
Wow. I wonder why Stanley didn’t play ? Who would have thought we would hear that statement from anyone on here ?

Wow anybody watching the Habs game. That interference call … with one hand pushing a player back is a penalty?
The blues sure are lucky that ref is not doing their games.

Just saw the Habs goalie make a save that, had Helle let it in, everyone would have assured us he had no chance on it.

Edit: on closer inspection it might have hit the side of the net, but my point stands! Lol.

Is there a reason helle can't take charge and own his crease,I'm not asking for smith or hextall but get mad and move someone with a blocker to the head or a whack, toronto wacked grieg a handful of times, tom wilson got chopped, and for the love of God #81 can't just wait for shief and cole to feed him,get involved like st l top guys.and is #54 scared to be physical.

It's pretty clear what other teams strategy is against us now. We defend the middle so well that teams are happy to just throw it back to the point and blast on net with a screen as often as they can.

It's obviously something we struggle with personnel wise between the smaller D and Helle. But this is what Arniel gets paid for.

We were dominating that game and 3/4 goals were just off low danger point shots. Even if it's a weakness of ours, it's preventable... time to adjust and bury these guys.

Time for Helle to step up.

Good breakdown of what happened this afternoon.

Good video and appreciate his insight. A couple of bones to pick, my opinion:

1) Missing analysis on the key breakdowns on goal 1 and 3.

Goal 1 results from the Jets dzone structure breaking down off a lost puck battle, and Haydn Fleury not picking up and fronting the most obvious threat in front of goal which was Neighbors.

Goal 3 isn’t on 81 at all. Terrible fly by checking attempt by 55 in the neutral zone creates the whole mess.

2) Not really sure where he’s going with the point shot discussion. Every team in the NHL relies on point shots and crashing the net as their fundamental way of generating chances off sustained in-zone pressure.

Get in the shot lane and block it, or box someone out. Nothing more than that; defending point shots should be the most basic part of your defensive zone strategy. No “adjustments” needed other than the Jets nutting up.

Other than that, I agree 100% with what he’s saying. Some really solid strategic insights that I don’t often see on YouTube.

That's the frustrating part. Defending point shots is fundamental and should be pretty easy. We have been doing the hard part great and the easy part poor for way too much time once we left home ice.

How do you explain the VAST disparity between his regular season numbers and his playoff numbers? It's not just this year.

Probably 100% between the ears. He's failed there a number of times the last three years and it's now in his head.

He's looking like just any other player who's fighting confidence. He's playing more passive, making slow reads etc.

My dad is very pragmatic about this stuff, and will no doubt be trying to talk me off the ledge by pointing out what a great regular season we had and how we got 82 games of entertainment.

Which, true. But say I offered to drive the kids to Disney World every year, and we made a bunch of fun stops along the way, but every year we broke down around Jacksonville and had to turn back. The first few times the kids would be like " that's OK dad, we had a great trip anyways!". Around the 3rd or 4th time though? They would start demanding Mickey Mouse or blood.

Must win on Wednesday. I hope we see a mentally resilient group that can get two wins in the next 3 games.

But Names not scoring (1 goal) in 34+ games now is also telling and a dire roster issue that has to be corrected before this team can contend. No legit SC contender has a 2C that hasn't scored in almost 1/2 a season.

Okay, and 2 Vezinas, 2 William Jennings and a President's cup did nothing to help? It seems a reach. He's just not built for the playoffs. That is the conclusion I come to based on observation of game play and the numbers.

Team toughness is an issue. But we haven't done a good job of getting in front or Binnington and touching him whenever we get a chance. He's a hot head. Someone should be harassing him non stop
That’s because all the Jets are boxed out … that’s what a tough D is suppose to do.
It’s time for the Jets to get players who are tough and play with grit in the playoffs.
Pionk and Lowry were the only ones that played with grit and Pionk gets the unlucky bounce own goal.

Last year the Jets won game 1 and then got swept

They said they needed to be 10% better.... they won TWO games this year.... that's actually 100% better. So they're over achieving lol

For everyone wanting to see them take a meaningful step forward this year in the playoffs... they doubled their wins! If they do that next year, they'll win 4... the year after that 8, and then they win the cup!

It seems we are trying to win it on skill and stay out of the box, the refs strangely at least to me are not rewarding our approach.

Is that the Colorado Blue Print the Blues are using? Same zone entries same clog the front of the crease.

sucks to be losing like this when you know the team is capable of better - the last two years….

arghhhh 🥲……
