I do think Brady finds his way to StL in the next 5 years. Either via trade or signing once he's a FA.Trade for BOTH Tkachuks
I posted in the Kaiden Guhle thread on the trade boards. Not sure if he'd really be for trade but a Montreal fan offered. The OP wanted either a Top 6 player or a top 13ish pick. I offered either Neighbours or our first for Guhle. Someone asked for both. If we end up picking 12-16th, what would you think of the following at the draft:
Blues get: Kaiden Guhle + mid to late pick
Montreal gets: Jake Neighbours + 1st (lottery win protected, if it falls 12 or later)
Guhle is a 22 year old LD with one more year of ELC, playing top pair minutes and not looking out of place. He's a good size, 6'2' 200lbs and skates very, very well. He is an all around D. He could develop into true all-aroud top pair, maybe even 1D. Neightbours plus the first is a lot. I've grown very fond of Neighbours this season. But Guhle is exactly what I'd want to start fixing the D.
Perunovich will likely be an RFA - what happened to him?Lines fully subject to change but here's what it looks like going into the summer.

Would not do both, but I'd consider tossing in something. I can see why he'd be more than the Romanov deal, but I don't think it would require a Neighbours premium.I posted in the Kaiden Guhle thread on the trade boards. That's still not a great lineup. It could be worse. It could still be better, though. I would rather shove Schenn to the wing and find a 2C because Schenn at center could make that 2nd line a black hole given how he's fallen off this season. [Still another 3 years of him after 24-25!] There's a fair amount of hope pinned on Leddy / Parayko / Faulk / Krug not falling off because I'm not banking on them to go back to form from 3 years ago. If Bolduc is going to be an extra, leave him down in Springfield and let him work on dominating there.Lines fully subject to change but here's what it looks like going into the summer.

He's gone. Or, if you prefer, he's the 7th defenseman instead of Tucker. Or, if we really think we need him, he goes on the 4th line at some point.Perunovich will likely be an RFA - what happened to him?

Are we confident the Buchnevich-at-center thing isn't going to be long term? This isn't the first time the team has tried it so they seem to think there is something there. I guess ultimately it doesn't change much of the calculus around the roster heading into next season, but would perhaps change what kind of forwards we'd realistically want to target.Lines fully subject to change but here's what it looks like going into the summer.

That’s an easy pass for me.I posted in the Kaiden Guhle thread on the trade boards. Not sure if he'd really be for trade but a Montreal fan offered. Yeah Tucker was a nice longshot but it's not coming in, he doesn't have the footspeed.I'm Kind of Hoping we pick up someone better than Tucker for our #7 Dman.
Agreed, Kessel is definitely not playing to his strengths right now. From watching him in College he's much more of a hitter than he shows in the NHL so far just one example. But he is showing a very good outline of a player who will be a good Bottom 4 Minute eating defenseman in the long term.Yeah Tucker was a nice longshot but it's not coming in, he doesn't have the footspeed.
Kessel on the other hand, that is an NHL defenseman who's going to have a long career. He is one of the top bits of good news this season. He's not a top pairing guy but he has room to grow his game from where it is. This is the getting comfortable time.
Yep and it’s not going to happen.Looking like it will take 11-12 wins in the last 15 games to get in. We’re now 6 points behind Vegas for the last spot and 9 behind the Preds.
I made a post a while ago on the trade forum, but I'll also ask the queston here:
What do we think of swapping Krug's bad contract for another bad contract, preferably a forward?
I am mainly thinking of, potentially, targetting a forward who could be an addition to the third (or maybe even 2nd) line in terms of play (but is paid too much). The reasoning is that it probably does less harm to the team to bury a forward somewhere in the lineup than Krug on defense. I'm mostly looking at forwards with at most 3 years term left on their contract as that fits our rebuil...ehhh.... retooling timeline.
Some names that pop up:
Ryan Johansen PHI, 4000000 1 more season (already 50% retained)
Anders Lee NYI, 7000000 2 more seasons (M-NTC next season)
Alex Killorn ANA, 6250000 3 more seasons (NTC next season)
Josh Anderson MON, 5500000 3 more seasons (M-NTC next season)
Logan Couture SJS, 8000000 3 more seasons (M-NTC next season) (serious injury concerns)
Ondrej Palat NJD, 6000000 3 more seasons (NMC next season)
Jean-Gabriel Pageau NYI, 5000000 2 more seasons (M-NTC next season)
For comparison, Krug's cap is 6500000 for 3 more seasons. He has a NTC next season and a M-NTC from the 25/26 season. His actual salary next season is 8500000 though, which could be problematic.
- Couture is a tough one. He's injured and who knows if he will ever come back at a decent level. Eventhough he has the most 'boom-potential', his contract is probably too much of a risk. Could end up at Robidas Island very quickly.
- Johansen is interesting as he has only one year left at a 4 million deal, but a deal is VERY unlikely as Krug already nixed a deal to Philly.
- Anderson is questionable as it isn't unlikely Krug will nix a deal to a Canadian team.
Pageau seems like the most interesting player of this list (apart from Johansen) as the Islanders have problems on LHD, he has 1 year less term and costs 1.5 million less. His M-NTC contains half the NHL though. I also think it's questionable if his contract is 'bad enough' in comparison to Krug's contract.
Made this post yesterday in another topic, but I tought I might aswell copy it here too as I've noticed the other topic was made by someone who's probably blocked by half the people posting in the Blues subforum.
I think the idea is what's going to happen with Krug - we trade him to someone for someone else's bad contract - but he could be tough to move for '24-25, and when you mention anyone else with a full NTC for '24-25 it makes a trade that much more difficult.
Since Krug already nixed Philadelphia once, I'd guess he'll make it twice if asked a second time. Of the other teams mentioned: the only team that jumps out as a "he might waive to go there" would be the Islanders; I don't think Lou is trading for him, and I really don't think Lou is going to fork over a ton of assets in another Army Trade Special for Krug.
