Since this has derailed into a general conversation about college hockey, I think it is worth mentioning that Lindenwood has 12 home games this year and season tickets are $99 for general admission seating and $150 for assigned seats. Pretty damn cheap way to catch some legitimately good hockey and support the growth of college hockey. Ohio State comes to town in November and Lindenwood played them close on the road last year (4-2 loss and a 2-2 tie).

Crazy thought just popped in my head. College hockey in Canada has a real opportunity to develop and grow.

New head coach & assistants this season, after longtime ACHA (club hockey) then NCAA DI coach (and formal Blue) Rick Zombo was dismissed following last season. It'll be interesting to see the style change, which will be necessary if the Independent LU men's team wants to find a conference home.

Mayich continues to look good.
Simon Robertsson might have scored more goals today than anyone else. Most of the drills were rushes against air in his morning group, but he beat Cranley a lot and Binner a couple times.
I hope/expect he gets a top 6 chance in Springfield this season.

SHL teams started their regular season today.

I'm trying to see both Stenberg and Lindstein in action. Thus far Stenberg is flying around as usual. Malmo took an early penalty and has him on the 1st PK unit. He's their 3RW to start the game.

Lindstein is on Brynas' third pairing.

Stenberg Notes:

- Stenberg quickly joins the rush after a nice feed but can't tuck it in on the backhand. I'm 99% sure he drew a penalty on the ensuing play. He's started PP1 at RD then shifted down to the bumper before sliding to the front of the net. He had a couple good net-front chances 5v5 prior to this.

- Sandin-Pellikka puts Skelleftea up 1-0 on Malmo with a bomb of a one-timer on the PP. Stenberg not on the ice.

- After a quiet second, Stenberg assist on the PP (puck hits off his skate in the slot) and Malmo takes a 3-1 third period lead.

- Stenberg with a chance in front of the net on the PP but the defenseman ties his stick up. Pretty quiet game for Stenberg 5v5 but did have a couple solid chances that he couldn't bury.

- Final Malmo 4, Skelleftea 1. Quieter game 5v5 than I'm used to seeing from Stenberg. The third line didn't see a lot of ice in the second period for whatever reason. He was active on the PP spending most of his time in front of the net where he tallied an assist after a shot bounced off the shaft of his stick right to the LW who buried it for the goal.

Lindstein Notes:

- Lindstein started the rush and feathered a nice pass to the LW who wasn't able to finish. This is the only 1st period play I was able to catch involving him.

- Lindstein is such a smooth skater. Should have no trouble moving up to the second pairing with some more seasoning. He doesn't miss passes. Tape to tape every time. Very crisp.

- Former Blue Ty Rattie opposing Lindstein's team today. Rattie a nice scoring chance but can't finish.

- Winger gets a half step on Lindstein on the rush but Lindstein's able to close the gap and kill it. Linkoping not getting a lot going with Lindstein's pair on the ice.

- LIndstein with a deceptive back hand dish to the LW who gives Brynas a one-time chance in front. No goal.

- Final Linkoping 3, Brynas 2. Pretty quiet on the ice when Lindstein's pairing was out there, allowing only a few low pct. shots to get through. Lindstein looked to be clearly one of the best skaters Brynas has on defense. Had a couple tape to tape 100 ft. passes and set up a couple good scoring chances that weren't converted. Solid first game of the season. I think it's only a matter of time before Lindstein gets his shot higher in the lineup because Brynas' top two units looked overwhelmed for much of the game.

I purchased a 3 month subscription to McKeens and we're not off to a good start.

Within the first few pages of their season preview mag:

DALIBOR DVORSKY, C/RW – ST. LOUIS BLUES
The past few years development path for Dvorsky were messy, playing in Sweden at the J18, J20, Allsvenskan, SHL and international tournaments for Slovakia. He moved to the OHL after a ten game SHL start to the season with limited minutes and broke out in Sudbury posting 88 points in 52 games. The 19-year-old will stay in the OHL for another development season, but it was nice to see the offensive upside scouts have been talking about flourish in the right environment and to see his development on track.

BRAYDEN YAGER, C – ST. LOUIS BLUES
Braydon Yager joined the Blues after being acquired for Rutget McGroarty. His WHL production has improved from 59 points as a rookie, to 78 in his draft year to 95 last year leading the Moose Jaw Warriors to a WHL Championship. He was also one of the top players for Canada at the WJC as well as a point-per-game player.

I, for one, am glad we could pick up Yager just for the Jets sending McGroarty to Pittsburg

Not a bad list. I’d have Pekarcik higher and Dickinson nowhere near the top-15 but it’s at least a reasonable list. The big omission IMO is Zherenko. Unless maybe they consider him aged out. But 23 can still be a prospect IMO, especially for a goalie.
I'm pretty much in agreement with the top 10, tho, I think Fischer is gonna shoot up the rankings this season. I think we are in a good spot with Lindstein, Broberg, Fischer, and Buchinger for LHD. Add in Burns if he gets his love for the penalty box under control

SHL Game Notes

Stenberg (Malmo):

- MoDo dominating Malmo 3-0 after the first. Stenberg is at least -1 after he was on the ice for goal #1. Right-side D-man who abandoned the wing to cover the slot which was already covered. He wasn't on the ice for goal #2. Not sure about goal #3 as I didn't have eyes on the game when it happened. Stenberg did have a nice 15 second 5v5 possession in the o-zone where they couldn't touch him but it didn't end up generating a scoring chance.

- MoDo now up 5-0. Stenberg didn't get a lot of ice time in the second. He wasn't on the ice for either of the two goals in the 2nd per. Awful D-zone coverage all game by Malmo and nothing cooking offensively.

- Stenberg at the net-front on MoDo's first PP of the game.

- Malmo trails 5-0 with 9 minutes left. I won't be able to catch the rest of this one as I'm heading out. Full recap later.

Lindstein (Brynas):

- Brynas-Orebro tied 0-0 after the 1st. Didn't notice Lindstein much. I get the sense that I'll be saying that a lot. Orebro hasn't generated much in the D-zone with his pairing out there.

- Lindstein makes a bad outlet pass under pressure which leads to a partial breakaway. No goal.

- Lindstein with some looks on the point. Fired one just over the bar, two more deflected wide. Orebro really clogging up the middle.

- Brynas leads Orebro 1-0 heading into period 3.

- Winger gets an outside step on Lindstein on the rush but Theo recovers with a poke check.

- Lindstein with a wrister on goal gloved easily by the keeper. Could've taken another step or two before firing.

- Brynas showing some confidence keeping Lindstein out there 6-on-5 to defend their 2-0 lead late.

Did you watch these games? Impressive :)

I saw a post on a Czech hockey game that said Ondrej Kos scored in his second game with Ilves in Liiga. Looking at his elite prospects page it would appear that he was recently called up from the junior club to the main team. I'm digging this Czech infusion we've got going in our prospect pool.

Stenberg wasn't very noticeable out there today. Didn't have the puck on his stick much during his 12ish minutes of ice time. He was way more noticeable in games I watched last season with Frolunda but they seemed to play a more aggressive brand of hockey. He also saw more time at center last season though which kept him more active. I'm hoping he slides back into a center spot because defensively Malmo's centers struggled in the middle today and that's where Stenberg shines.

Malmo couldn't get anything going on offense today. Their second line provided a little spark but also got dinged for a couple goals. They seemed to be having a lot of communication breakdowns in the defensive zone today. Awful game for the whole team really. Stenberg finished -1 as he was on the ice for a goal that was caused by the LD leaving the LW to cover the C who was already covered.

As for Lindstein, this was the first time I saw him make a bad mistake. The LW passed a puck back to him and it hopped over his stick. He got back to retrieve and tried to throw it back up past the red line to the LW but it got tipped and dished to another forward for a partial breakaway which wasn't converted. Other than that it didn't feel like Orebro had many chances with Lindstein on the ice. Positionally both he and Stenberg looked fine today. You can tell they understand their assignments. They weren't out there trying to do too much.

Lindstein did get to fire the puck a few times. Missed over the crossbar once and couldn't fire it through traffic two more times. He had one good chance from above the top of the faceoff circle but the goalie snatched it with ease. All in all it was a pretty clean game. I was impressed that they looked to Lindstein's pairing when Orebro pulled the goalie.

I did. It's really difficult to prospect watch on two different games when you don't speak the language.
