2014 Draft is here ! Hockey fan's Summer Christmas :propeller:propeller:propeller:propeller

Welcome to my 2014 NYR draft preview !

I'm heading to the draft right now. I'll be high up in a box taking notes but won't be able to post until after, maybe not until tomorrow night, but I'll try and get on as much as I can.

Not an extravaganza like usual, no first rounder two years in a row, and barely a 2nd rounder two years in a row. Though last years 3rd round trifecta is looking very promising.

I think the top 30 is pretty solid in this draft. When we look back I think most will be surprised at how good this first round will look compared to most. Pretty talented top 10 even though there is no apparent next megastar. That should never be the point anyway, especially when your team never drafts top 5;)

Like I say every year, whether this is predicted as good or bad, its a draft, and like all drafts there are good players in there that could help us get younger and cheaper and add more value to the prospect pool. Last year we might have done very well with three 3rd rounders, that there is proof alone no draft is just a toss away.

NYR's 2nd round pick, 59th overall:

My hope is that one of Pollock, Magyar, or Hawryluk will make it to us but I see them gone by 59. Kamenev might make it same way Buchnevich did last year, least thats my hope. Here are some names to look for:

Vlad Kamenev LW 6'2 176 Magnitogorsk RUS

Shane Eiserman LW 6'1 200 Headed to U of NH

Gavin Beyreuther D 6'1 175 St Lawrence

Brandon Montour D 6'0 175 Headed to U Mass-Amherst

Jonas Johansson G 6'4 187 Brynas SWE

Oskar Lindblom LW 6'0 185 Brynas SWE

Keegan Iverson C 6'0 215 Portland WHL

Blake Siebenaler D 6'0 190 Niagara OHL

Aaron Irving D 6'0 186 Edmonton WHL

Spencer Watson RW 5'10 155 Kingston OHL

Ryan Donato C 6'0 175 Headed to Harvard U

3rd round and beyond:

Kevin Labanc LW/RW 5'10 175 Barrie OHL

Christopher Brown C/RW 6'0 180 Headed to Boston College

Jake Evans C/RW 6'0 175 St Mikes OJHL

Ed Minney G 6'4 190 Headed to Michigan State

Andreas Englund D 6'3 187 Djugarden SWE

Max Letunov C 6'2 160 Youngstown USHL

Noah Rod RW 5'10 175 Geneve SUI

Antii Kalapudas C 6'0 160 Karpat FIN

Ben Thomas D 6'1 190 Calgary WHL

Michael Lee D 5'11 165 Headed to U of Vermont

Nicholas Jones RW/C 5'10 175 Headed to Ohio State

Nikita Jevpalovs RW 6'0 180 Blainville-Boisbriand QMJL

Louis Belpedio D 5'10 190 Headed to Miami U

Colt Bobyk D 6'1 190 Spokane WHL

Have a great draft weekend to all attending and to those at home, should be fun, let's hope Philly tries to make a big splash, always works good for them :p:

IMO, top ten stands out, but the dropoff is not bad for a long stretch afterwards. Quality players for the next 40 to 50 picks. And players will slide too so having a few 3rds may be a nice consolation to no 1st.

Do you think moving up to between 31-45 ish would be a good move?

Always depends on how much they like a guy to use more than one asset for him.

If a guy drops usually one or more teams are looking to trade up so you end up in a bidding war. This draft team seems to stay or move back after the 1st round. They'd really have to like a guy. IMO, like last year, they pinpoint 5 or 6 players and get in position beforehand to get 3 of those.

I watched nine minutes worth of Jakub Vrana's highlights and he's now my favorite player in the draft

Thanks Bluenote13:yo::handclap:
And kudos on the impressive effort: :bow::bow::bow::bow::bow::bow::bow::bow::bow::bow::bow::bow:

that's taking a bow - 13 times!

Great job, BN.

Donatoks kid interests me. Better, more disciplined version of Bourque where/when he was drafted.

American too. Groton loves those New Englanders.

Had a great time at the draft, this was the first I attended live. Hate to say it but Philly put on a good show. Everyone seemed accessible.

I met and talked with many prospects, former NHL'ers and current scouts. It was surreal talking shop with the guys who get paid to do it. I met a few of the Rangers scouts, didn't talk to any of them, as I was sitting in with the Devils crew of staff and friends/family. Isles staff stayed away too.

I cringed when we took a goalie with our first pick. Someone from the Devs org asked me if Henrik was taking his talents back to Sweden and also asked how we ended up with any picks after the Sathers trades the last few years. All I said in return was 'Hows Kovalchuk' doin' ?

Overall, just a great time, wish I could go to Florida for next years draft, gonna try and get down to that one even though we will be picking on day 2 yet again.

I think that's a good sign considering how hard you bashed Stepan when we picked him.

I mostly bashed the jazz dancing or tap dancing part or whatever the hell that was.

With all that footwork you'd think his skating would be better. And how do you remember that anyways? I barely remember it myself.

I remember because that thread was hilarious. People decided he wasn't a good hockey player because he likes watching Glee.
