...and still lost. Guess it wasn't enough.

Exactly. I worry about the “close” sentiment. This is a sport of wins or loses. No moral victories. We’re a work and progress and still lost in a very Ranger like fashion. As a franchise we have a history of close but losing and I’m not sure when it will ever change. That concerns me the most. We are all the bad luck the Yankees never had.

I can do that too. Just last month they also beat the Isles, maple leafs, Carolina, Columbus, and Minnesota. All teams in playoff position or fighting for a spot. The last 3 games have been against tough competition but you can't discount the losses of Kreider and Shesty.
Absolutely none of those teams are on the level of the Bruins, Blues, Flyers.

Felt like Quinn barely played Panarin and Mika in the 3rd. Bottom six has been useless all season.

We often win games that we don't deserve to. Tonight was the opposite.

Young teams can absolutely have moral victories, even late in the season. These guys are going to learn how to play in these kind of games, and the sooner the better.

You don't learn anything by beating the sisters of the poor. These are the games you learn from and they can take a lot away from how they had to battle, even in losing.

I voted for Smith and I’m not ashamed to admit it. He had a great game.

Totally agree and said so on the game day thread.

I was afraid for my life for saying that I thought Smith was very impressive tonight but said screw it...I'll take my chances...lol.

In all seriousness, it might have been Smith's best game of the year!

They honestly should have won the last 2. Tonight annoys me less than Sunday since it was a relatively close came that they played well in. Sunday just seemed like a game that they threw away.

They've already tossed away half of the losses I thought they could have afforded to have if they were going to sneak in. With the team ahead of them refusing to win, maybe that number is 7 or 8 instead of 6 but either way, its not good.

Have to think that the season comes down to Thursday against the Dirty ass Caps. They'll probably do dirty things to the Devils but I don't see them sweeping their upcoming road trip.

The Rangers have gone 2 games without scoring a even strength goal

Came here to say this.

Surely not happy that we lost but I'd say by minute 10 of the third I was just impressed that a team that's like 50% children and with one defenseman who hasn't played defense all year managed to pull out a game like that against St. Louis.

Just night and day from the last game we played against them.

Good times ahead.

We got beat by a fluke goal that wouldnt have been able to make that angle without it hitting Lindgrens stick. Unfortunately when you get behind against a tight team like St.Louis it's hard to get it back. If we play like that the rest of the year we would be close to playoffs but we are running out of time.

I haven't missed Skjei one bit.

They gotta find a way to get Gauthier more ice time IMO. His hands might be a bit behind his speed and thinking but there's so much skill there. His size and speed alone makes him an obvious Kreider substitute both in a bigger role in the top 6 and on the PP.
Agreed. No sense in continuing to shoe horn Lemieux and Howden into these spots, it’s not working.

3 of the best teams in the league. That the Rangers can't beat.
Can't beat the best then playoffs aren't going to be very much fun for this team.

You are not saying anything most people don't already know. They are not good enough to make any real noise even if they got in. The Rangers are ahead of schedule with some nice talent, a good prospect pool, and 2 more 1st rounders this year. They will be real contenders in 2 years.
