they're a very meat and potatoes team yeah. Can't argue with the results but it doesn't make for good games.
But they're not even fun "I'm gonna f***in kill you" meat and potatoes like say, the Flyers in 2012 (f*** the Flyers but that team was fun).

It's more like "I'm gonna hug you 20 times and and refs will get bored after the second one."

They played well. Losing Kreider was always going to hurt. Islanders losing helps. They likely won't get in, but they're still right there.

Tonight proved to me the next move to make is sell high on Georgiev (like Talbot) at the Draft. He is a solid player who has room to get better, but with a healthy Igor here he'll never have a true opportunity to be the full-time starter. Use another asset to pair with him and get one more piece up front. Would love a player like Kevin Lebanc here.

Losing doesn't mean that nothing positive happened in a game though. They played a good game. They lost. Happens to the best teams.
I'm not saying these are learning lessons or whatever, and yeah, they didn't play bad tonight, but the bottom line is that this Ranger team can't beat the better teams in the league, even when they play their best game. That's not a recipe for success in the playoffs.

mid 2000s Calgary Flames IMO

Kakko at least was getting some chances tonight and is good in front. But yeah Gauthier would be my first choice too, but I just mean any of them over Lemieux.

I like Lemieux. Lemieux is a good bottom 6 energy guy who can pop in 10-15 goals. He should be killing penalties. Power play is not something he should be playing and he shouldn't be out there with our goalie pulled trying to tie it.

He's not Kreider. He's not Kreider-lite. He's not even remotely similar to Kreider as a player.
I think he knew Lemieux would at least go fearlessly to the front of the net and in the corners 110 MPH with no fecks given, as opposed to Kakko who might be hesitant to go into the dirty areas and not get leveled like he has been. Listen, Kreider getting hurt is huge. That was basically the dagger.

They're not a playoff team so that doesn't seem like a problem right now.

Of the teams they've beaten since January, only 4 have been playoff teams.
They just outplayed the defending Stanley Cup Champs, who have been on their own run, in the midst of a great stretch sans the Flyers game. This isnt just one game. They have beaten good teams. They have beaten teams in the playoff hunt. I know you so badly want to come up with some narrative that this team is so far from being a playoff team...but it just isnt true. Sorry. Not the case. They very well may not make the playoffs but they have taken positive steps forward and are not far off. And thats the whole argument that multiple people are giving you pushback on...they are not far off.

Sell off what? Kreider? Strome? DeAngelo? That moves us backwards not forwards. Maybe they should have traded Fast but you know what i'm not going to cry about that lost 3rd round pick.

it’s not backward, it’s a rebuild. Yes, at least one of those 3 should have been moved. Fast is an UFA while Georgiev couldn’t be moved due to Shev’s accident.

Adding more kids or prospects is not taking a step back during a rebuild.

o snap me too. i wouldnt consider it a water sign though, but maybe that's a me thing.

That's why I'm always

crabby.

Works hard, plays clean, probably has done what he's asked all year, and Quinn isn't coaching to win every game like it's the last game forever. If you don't put guys out to outperform their current slots, they will never outperform their current slot.

It's a reward system thing. Lemieux has a bigger "bank" than Gauthier right now.
No. Sorry this is just nonsense. DQ has been coaching to win all year. He has certainly displayed this in the last month plus with how he has handled the goalies. He is coaching to win. He is shuffling lines in game. He has players getting minimal minutes in the 3rd period. He is coaching to win. Lemieux doesnt belong in those crucial spots and yet he is there. And yet he is not producing over and over again. Bad job by DQ
