I have no idea and ya the position he plays doesnt really fit our team but looking at his stats in the minors, he's been a machine and it's somewhat suprising he's so far down our prospect rankings (I think MLB.com has him ranked #30).

carerer minor league stats

246 games played
.301 batting avg
.396 on base %
.872 OPS
very good BB to K rate
We seem to be good at producing 1B type players LOL. Those numbers are very appealing

Other problem is... how much do we want to replace Teo/Lourdes's playing time with more Tapia/Zimmer (or spend more significant assets to replace the outgoing OF? I think it makes more sense to just simplify it and go straight prospects for pitching.
It certainly creates other problems. Could be a three team deal kind of thing. But there would be another trade required if we moved say Lourdes. Lourdes as part of a package for a starter and then prospect for an outfielder. Say benintendi?

Can Biggio play full-ish time in the outfield? That's the only way I'd be remotely okay with an outfielder getting moved. God knows I don't need to watch more Tapia at bats and whatever Bradley Zimmer calls hitting.

You don't sell on Teoscar now but I think if you're going to move Gurriel, you have to do it while he's hot.
I don’t think Biggio works in the outfield and I certainly to don’t want montoyo to have a reason to give Tapia even more playing time. It’s too bad we have no outfielders coming up the ranks

Now would also be a good time to attempt this approach as we have a handful of prospects in our system that are having very strong years that previously weren't extremely hyped by prospect evaluators. Now you could end up trading some impactful future player for an average major league return but you could also be selling high on a prospect with little MLB future (Kevin Smith type scenario).

Spencer Horwitz, Addison Barger, Samad Taylor, Adrian Hernandez, Dahian Santos, Dasan Brown, Tanner Morris.

All these guys have had good seasons and their value has certainly been raised but they arent any of our top prospects. Maybe smart to sell high on some of these guys along with something else for some much needed pitching for the next 2-3 years.

Not sure if it's been mentioned but Barger was promoted to AA. 2-4 last night with 2 Ks. Strikeouts are still a concern but the power he's shown this year + last season plays anywhere on the field.

It was time, team is in a freefall and they have been a meddling .500 team since June.1st.

It had to happen, that Seattle series was the final straw.

This move actually shows me alot in regards to management and how serious they are about winning.

I personally would not have thought they would actually pull the trigger right now but I think it shows we're not playing good enough baseball and the expectation is championship this season.

I fully expect them now to make a big deal for a pitcher/BP at some point to really bolster our rotation.

Love the optics of this happening after a win when Guerrero clearly was pissed off at Montoyo for not listening to him on him missing the bag.

probably was going to happen after the M's series but with the funeral they probably held off for the optics

Agreed!
I wonder if Vlad's reaction last night was kinda the last straw type of thing
