seems about the time a team usually turns on Torts wouldn't surprise me.

I thought he was supposed to have worked on that side of his temperment?

I imagine it's not the first time something like this has happened, it's probably the first to be written about in an online article.

Or maybe not I don't know. It sure seems unusual.

the fact that it's been reported is more concerning than the event itself.

A closed door meeting to talk with a person about his behavior and how it affects the group sounds like an intervention.

And no, I'm not implying anything. Just being glib.

i had a coach like that. it is toxic. always negative no matter what. gets to the team. torts needs to be cool sometimes. positive reinforcement? this isn't the old gen anymore

It only takes one or two of 22 players talking to a friend at Sportsnet for it to be "reported". I don't quite see why you think this is concerning.

wheels coming off

I see it as the opposite. The players are trying to work through it. I don't think you make this attempt, as a player, if you don't want him to be your coach, or if you don't respect him. As long as the players are willing to put in the work, he should show them similar respect.

And I'm sure Tortorella reacted with grace and serenity when being pulled aside by his entire team.

More likely he broke a stick over his head and yelled until his eyes bulged out of his skull.

Players these days are soft. Some of the best coaches of all time were hard *****. Best coach I ever had spent a good 90% of his time cursing and swearing at us. Motivation was never hard to come by playing for him.
