Strange night. Jim Fox calls the game from the benches for the first time and Joe Buck calls his first hockey game for the Blues.

PBP starts around 1:30 in. Buck’s father Jack was the first-ever Blues play-by-play man back in 1967.

He sounds just as depressed calling hockey as he does MLB games.

Daryl Reaugh does a great Joe Buck impersonation: http://video.stars.nhl.com/videocenter/console?catid=0&id=172115&cmpid=embed-share-video

Yeah, I saw that. He actually wasn't that bad, but yes he does sound like he's really depressed.

He says hockey is the sport he enjoys watching most, and baseball is the one he enjoys calling most.

And yet he sounds bored either way.

Wasn't that bad considering he's never called a hockey game before. The call on Drewiske's goal would've been better if he knew all the names of the Kings players.

He's better than most teams' PBP guys.

Funny how they completely missed the Backes boarding penalty that was mistakenly given to Polak. Kind of a big deal.

As long as he didn't bring McCarver with him....

To continue the theme of out-of-place announcers, Don Orsillo, the voice of the Red Sox, called the Beanpot final between Northeastern and Boston College tonight

Just goes to show how good of a commentator Joe Buck is. The transition sounded smooth, the guy could friggen commentate a hockey game if he wanted to.

Same goes for Gus Johnson, this guy is going to be commentating the Man U-Real Madrid game, probably the best decision Fox Sports has EVER made

I agree I know a lot of people don't like Joe Buck but I think he does a great job.

I enjoyed listening to Joe Buck do the game. I also enjoy his work for baseball too. He said he was a Blues season ticket holder, but it sounded like he was disgusted by their play. As he left, he said to the guys if in 10 minutes his seats were empty, please don't focus on that. Sounds like he was bitter about the way the Blues played. He didn't do too bad aside from not knowing most of the Kings players names. About the only player he knew was Bernier. I guess it must be difficult to call a game like hockey, where the action is constant and there are 11 players (as a rule) involved in each play, if you aren't used to it. Compared to baseball, where a play by play announcer is really only there to pass the time between pitches and football where you really only need to know the name of the QB and the WR or RB and the player on D who made the stop.

It would be interesting for Vin Scully to come in and call a Kings game for a bit with Bob and Jim. Though listening to Dodgers games he might be a bit too slow paced for hockey.

Jim Fox wasn't the only one between the benches last night. Right beside him was the Bernie Federko doing the Blues game. It was weird when they went down to Bernie, Jim Fox had no idea the camera was on him and man a few times did he look bored.

It's time...for Kings hockey!

Nah, just doesn't do it for me.

P.S. Most of you are too young to remember Vin Scully doing NFL football games in the 1970s and early 1980s. He mostly did Rams games since they were the local team.

He was just ok. Nothing special as a football announcer. Not even close to the legend he is in baseball.

He called the Dwight Clark "Catch" vs. Dallas.

Here is the entire final drive....

That guy is obviously enjoying life. Had to look him up because don't remember him, and for good reason...he was the backup goalie to Fuhr in Edmonton in 1988 when they won the Cup for the 50th year in a row.

His twitter handle: Razor5Hole  At least he can laugh at himself as well.

He spent some time playing in Hartford as well IIRC.

I watch a lot of Stars broadcasts mainly because I enjoy listening Ralph's and Daryl's commentary. Ralph's PBP style is economical - doesn't say much but just enough. Daryl is smart as hell and it shows when he breaks down plays. Two of the best in the biz, and Razor's Twitter account is worth following.
