"Everybody says it's a lousy building, it's an old building, it's a mausoleum and everything else," he said before the game, wearing a trademark bow tie, standing in a corridor, near the spot where his picture is included in an Islanders Hall of Fame display.

"All I know is, if you want to come and have a good seat and watch a hockey game, this is a good building. This is a hockey building. A few amenities are missing and if we had started way back when, today it would be . . . well, you know."
